≫ ──── ≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫ ──── ≪Eren Jaeger had sealed the first hole in the wall.
Now that was done, it was only one more to go.
Violet looked down at the titan left behind covered in hardened skin, acting as the bolder of the missing part in the wall, sealing the hole. Shivers ran down her spine as she stared at the titan that would forever guard this wall; and shivered at the fact that peace was one step closer.
Eren Jaeger was truly a beacon of hope to this cursed world. He was accomplishing the wicked dreams that everyone so achingly dreamt of every night they closed their eyes, thinking about the cruelties this world had made them face by living with creatures that no mare bear hand of a human could ever stop from devouring what they held close to the vessels of their souls.
It was truly outstanding, Eren Jaeger and the hope he brought to this world. Truly and marvellously outstanding. And sealing this wall...It had been so strangely easy. So, so easy.
No interruptions, no fights, no enemies to kill---nothing. It had been so fast and simple, that sealing this one hole had been done quicker than she had expected.
Not that she was complaining, not at all. The sooner this was over, the sooner she would get to rest with Levi and have those final moments of peace they had always talked about late at night at his office.
But still, this one particular mission had gone rather smooth. And judging by past experiences, this was never, ever a good sign.
Her squad joined her side once more and she smiled at them. "Everyone's fine?" She asked.
"Yes, Captain." Theo said, "No problems arise near the walls."
"And we checked around for the fugitives, but we were unable to find anything, Captain." Petru followed.
She sucked on her teeth as her jaw clenched together. The fact that Bertholdt and Reiner were yet to be found made her uneasy, could not feel at peace until they were found. "Well, that's alright. Thank you, guys. Let's keep it up."
"We will find them, Captain. You can count on us." Thomas said as if he sensed her stressed even though she wore a mask on her face like a second skin.
She smiled at him gratefully, his kindness towards a never ending well full of surprises."I know I can, Thomas. I do believe in you more than you know."
"Now that the outer part of the wall is covered, we can rest assured that the other one will be even easier than this one." Julian said, his icy-blue eyes looking at everyone, "Once this is over, we will be able to rest. We have earned it, guys."
Violet liked how Julian took over the role of Co-Captain of the team and that everyone just simply accepted it, regardless that it had never been discussed. It suited him, taking over her role time-to-time. She just might request to make him a Captain once this truly was over. "I hate to be the breaker of good news, but this is not over until we find and kill Bertholdt and his companions." She sighed, taking in everyone's fallen faces, "Because no matter how many times we plug the wall, as long as they live, they will bring it down over and over again.
"I know how badly you guys want to rest, trust me, I do too. I know you deserve it, more than I do. But we have to ensure peace is restored for good. We can't allow another tragedy like this to repeat itself, or for matters to get worse." Violet continued, raising her head slightly, "You and the whole world deserves to rest. But we just have to wait a bit longer, for things to go back to normal before you do." She stopped for a little, thinking her words thoroughly, before adding, "But if your wish is to resign right now, to take that break you deserve, I won't stop you. You have served a good deal for humanity and this cause. I would understand if that is what you wish."
It was certainly not the ideal time for people to leave, considering the mass numbers they had already lost. But who was she to stop them? Who was she to deny them the rest she craved, too?But no one moved from their positions, looking at her with hope still shimmering in their eyes. Looking at her with pride, at their captain who was their own knight in shining armour. "I don't think anyone's leaving, Grey." Julian chuckled, "But good try at getting rid of us."
She chuckled, too. "Thank you, guys, truly---"
"Captain Grey!" A soldier run up to her, stopping when she was a few inches away from her.
"Yes, cadet?"
"Commander Erwin request for you to overlook. We are gonna search the walls for Bertholdt and his companions."
She nodded. "Right, thank you, cadet. Report back to Commander Erwin that we will be standing watch." She turned back to her squad, "Alright, you heard the cadet. Stand by and keep your eyes on the lookout."✥
Violet Grey had looked down at many people in her life.
But never like this. Keeping guard of a cadet while her whole world seemed upside down with her head hanging by her neck--yeah, it was something she had never done before.
It felt...inefficient. Like it was not the most convenient way to be keeping guard of a cadets life.
So far, they had found nothing. And so did the cadet confirm when she looked up to Violet and shook her head. Violet nodded back and gave her a thumbs up.
Her eyes went to look at the other cadets when Reiner caught her vision. Reiner.
It all happened so fast, him appearing seemingly out of nowhere, moving a piece of the wall and stabbing a boy through the heart.Violet could not move fast enough, could not hook her gear fast enough when the cadet fell all the way to the ground.
She went flying over to Reiner, both blades extended. She didn't even register when she reached him and plunged her blade through his chest, exactly the way he had claimed that young boy's life. And then Levi came next, piercing his blade through Reiner's thick neck, the end of the blade coming out from the other side.
Reiner groaned out in pain as Violet detached the blade from her gear and Levi ran down the wall with him still attached to the blade. And then he let him go, just right before he reached near the end of the wall.
And Reiner fell, a great height. His body thudded against the ground and yet he lived. He twitched and turned before he transformed.
Violet shielded her eyes against the blinding light, retreating to the top of the wall as quick as she could. Fuck, fuck, fuck. Why did everything go to shit like this?
She barely got one foot on the wall when her mind told her to look beyond the wall, inside the wall, to look out for something. Her E/C searched, looked out for whatever it was that her mind screamed at her so frantically about, that if she could feel fear, she was sure that that was what she would be feeling by everything going on and the voices that did not leave her alone.
"Locate his allies!" Erwin hollered-- but he was too late.
Lights started going off all around them, beyond the wall. It was like some sick firework show, explosions going off everywhere on the horizon that shook the ground.
Violet was able to grab the cadet she was guarding before the girl tumbled over, the shaking making the poor girl lose her balance. She pulled her off the edge and pushed her behind her back, shielding her as she looked out.Far, far away from where she stood, a titan she had never seen before appeared right before her eyes.
It was tall. Massive. And seemed to have fur covering its body.
And it was not alone. The kind of titans she had seen before surrounded him, like some sort of army, looking straight ahead, as if looking right at her as their prey.
Chills ran down her spine-- and this time it was not because of Eren Jaeger and the beacon of hope the world thought it was.
No. She felt shivers because that massive ass titan was sending boulders flying right at them.≫ ──── ≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫ ──── ≪
