Erwin was yet to arrive.
It was late into the night and Levi, Violet and Eren found themselves waiting for their Commander and a few others to come to the dining room they were at. Violet was not in a talkative mood at all, just sat staring at the oil lamps as they burned and burned to provide them with some light. She hadn't been talking much the past few days, only said what was necessary. It was noticeable to everyone that she was still in shock, the loss still too raw and vivid in the Captain's mind. They understood her better than she thought, everyone did, it was something that would take a while to get through. But she kept up with her duties and did everything that was required from her regardless, as if it was any other day, with the same attitude and spirit as before. It was only when she thought no one was looking at her when she lowered her walls and showed the world what really was happening in her dimmed soul.
Although she tried her hardest to get out of the mourning mood she was in, never before had she lost something this great. Something so significant to her whole. And it pained her more and more each passing day. It was weird to see and feel the emptiness of Levi's squad, to see him all alone with no one to share his wisdom and strength with. The constant reminder that they were gone was always there, so clear for everyone to see. And when she saw Levi try to act the same, to appear unbothered and neutral to the world, although she knew he was hurt beyond words, it made the pain in her heart much stronger. With Levi still being strong regardless of what he had lost was eye-opening to her of just how grand, how much bigger the things that were taken away from his life were; much, much bigger than what she had imagined. Because if he still made himself act strong-- the world was the most fucked up shit she had ever known.

"They're so slow, Erwin and the others..."Levi mused, "I'll be escorted out by the Military Police Brigade at this rate." He took a sip of his tea, "If I were to guess, he's probably dealing with constipation."
Violet did not move to answer, just looked at Eren from the corner of her eye and then back to the lamp. Eren grimaced and shifted in his seat. "Lance Corporal, you're rather talkative today."
"Tch, don't be ridiculous. I've always been quite talkative."
To this Violet scoffed. "Lying, are we?"
Levi looked at her from the side of his eye and a glint of mischief shined in them. Violet rose her eyebrows slightly at him before he shifted in his seat, silently grunting as his injured leg sent a flare of pain throughout his thigh. Violet saw this and stood up, walking over to him to sit next to him. "Don't be moving so much, Levi." She placed a gentle hand on his thigh, "We can't afford not having you, okay?"
Levi's eyes went to her hand resting on his thigh and his stomach reacted to the sight, causing an unfamiliar feeling like a flutter to sing in his guts. Her eyes followed his own and when she saw where he was looking she went to move her hand when Levi moved his head slightly as in telling her 'no'. Violet let her hand fall down once more to a more comfortable position and ran her thumb gently over and over when Erwin and other cadets came in. From where they stood, her hand on his thigh was not visible to the naked eye, which she imagined Levi appreciated as he didn't seem like someone who loved to display public affection, just like her.

"Apologies for the delay." Erwin's voice rang.
Violet's eyes immediately went over to the young cadets that Erwin had brought with him, all of them looking the same age as Eren Jaeger. They were young, new recruits perhaps, and Violet felt sad that they had to be involved in such a mess at the age they were at and when they were barely joining the Survey Corps. This situation was certainly not a nice one, and especially not nice for young cadets barely joining the ranks. Eren, however, seemed happy and startled to see all of the cadets there. His friends, then. He looked at them with wide eyes and tumbled over his words, not knowing what to say to their faces who he hadn't seen for a while. But right now it was not the time for reunions and sappy, happy little words. It wouldn't be time for that for a while, especially not with the bomb Erwin dropped next:
"We've found a suspect who's believed to be the female titan."
