"Hanji. Oi, four eyes." Levi called, "Are your hobbies so boring that playing with rocks is somehow fun for you?"
For having passed this scenery many times before in her time serving in the Survey Corps, it sure was more interesting and welcoming than the talk happening in the cart. The tension was heavy, so thick that not even her trusty dagger could come close to cutting in half, and no one had uttered a word -- till now -- only sparing each other awkward glances that told everything their mouths did not. She couldn't blame them, though, as she also did not speak a word. Did not want to with the unpleasant presence of Pastor Nick and the even more unpleasant looks he threw over her way when he thought she was not looking and when he knew she was looking. Looking at the greenery was better than that, way better. It also allowed her to keep an eye out for danger, so it wasn't like it was a complete waste on her part.
Levi had cut the tension with those words, the man either immune to the tension and awkwardness present in the ride or could not give a single fuck that no one wanted to talk. She was kind of grateful that he spoke, as listening to his voice was always more pleasant, but especially now when the silence was starting to drive her insane along with the burning stare of Pastor Nick on her face. But that 'rock' that Levi called out Hanji for was no ordinary rock, she knew that. He probably didn't notice when they hid it behind their backs, did not see it the moment he walked into the room, but she had. And she knew that that was a piece of Annie Leonhart's hardened skin, a piece of crucial information Hanji had managed to collect. In what way it was valuable, she had a few ideas in mind, but would not voice them until she was sure that it was like she thought.
"Yeah, that's right." Hanji, at last, said, "But this is no ordinary rock." No, it was not.
"That is a hardened fragment of skin created by the female titan." Violet's voice had changed of tone, to a deeper, raspier level, "Just like the one I can create."

"What?" Armin's eyes widened, "How? It didn't disappear?" Armin turned his head towards Violet, as the scientist of the group did not offer a single answer. But it was not like she knew any better than them, wasn't completely sure of the answer herself. "Do you know, Captain Grey?"
"I don't know, kid. The same thing I ask." She sighed, "But as to how it didn't disappear, maybe it's like mine. I'm not a titan -- at least that I know off -- and mine remains intact till I break it off with my powers."
Armin frowned, his mind working a hundred kilometres per second. "So other people can break yours?"
"No, only I can. With the same power I create it with."
"So does that mean that you can break Annie's?" Eren asked, looking at her with hope in his eyes.
She shook her head softly, eyes dropping so that she did not see the disappointment shine in Eren's green eyes. "Don't think so, kid. I'm guessing that only the creator can do that. Or some really fucking powerful being. Mere humans can't."

"Exactly. I thought so, too." Hanji said, "The material is indestructible, which is why when I compared it with a piece of the wall, its pattern and composition were practically identical."
Violet looked over to Hanji, her eyes meeting with theirs in understanding. She had the same idea just like them, had the same exact theory in mind. "So in other words, the wall is a barricade of humongous titans, right?"
"Right. The surface must be constructed with hardened titan skin." As they said that, Hanji turned their head to look at Pastor Nick sitting on their left, whose face was visibly cringing at what the two Captains had just discovered. The truth that he was hiding all along. Violet bit back her wolfish grin as she saw his expression, as she took in the sheer shock and disbelief from what they had discovered in a mere few hours. He was damn right in fearing her, because not only did she have extraordinary abilities in every sense, but her mind was a wicked, sharp thing that not many had the pleasure of being blessed with. One of the few good things she had been allowed to have in this fucked up world.
"That's exactly what Armin was saying..." Mikasa mumbled, replaying everything that was said in her mind. Armin, too, seemed surprised at everything, the young blonde stuttering over his words as his mind struggled to process everything that was said. "T-then--"
"Let me finish Armin." Hanji cut him off, hands moving all over the place as their mouth rushed to get out everything that they thought, "We still need to fill the hole in Wall Rose, meaning we have to find the perfect boulder to plug it."
Holy gods. Violet knew what Hanji was referring to, the true meaning behind their words, her head turning once more to Hanji in a fast turn that threatened to hit her back with whiplash. No, no way in hell was Hanji really meaning that. Holy fucking gods. They were truly out of their fucking mind, wanting to make a risky thing like that. But if it worked, if they managed to pull it off... "So Eren in his transformed state..." She couldn't say it.
"---Could use the titan's hardening ability to seal the hole in the wall." They finished for her, head frantically nodding as they revealed their plan.

"Use me...to seal the wall..." He had every right to be startled, to not know what to feel. What to think. Hanji was out of their gods damn mind for even thinking about such a thing, but so was she for knowing what they meant and thinking that it might be worth the risk.
And Levi, who had been sitting next to Violet, did not disagree with the plan. It was all or nothing at this point and Eren Jaeger was a beacon of hope for this never-ending madness. He could very well save them all with this, could very well be the salvation to them all. And although Levi was not keen on the idea of sacrificing one of his own, of willingly making them do something that could end up in total disaster, everyone here had chosen to follow this path; to dirty their hands with blood and put their lives in the line for the sake of humanity. So it was not like they were bringing their deaths sooner to them than they were, they were merely fulfilling their duty for humanity. For that one hope that one day this will be over. Even when they might not be there to observe it, to taste that freedom that they have been craving.
"I think it's worth well the risk to try, but what about Violet? Couldn't she do it, too?" Armin offered, not aware of the burning glare that Levi was looking at him with when he heard those words leave his mouth, "She possesses the same ability as Eren."
"No." Levi practically growled, his voice lowering to a shivering tone that made the kid's skin crawl.
But Eren was immune to his stare, or maybe didn't notice it, as he said, "But she has the same hardening ability like me, sir."
"Unless you haven't noticed, Jaeger, she is human." He spits out, "She has no titan ability as you do. She would get killed, would get eaten by those titans before she could manage to reach the wall because of your incapability of manning up and doing your damn job."
Violet placed her hand on his leg before he could growl another word out before he made the kid in front of him burst into tears with his sharp words. Her hand was gentle on his non-injured leg, a silent touch that told him to calm down. And she removed it just as she placed it, not allowing it to lay on his muscled thigh for too much time to allow people to get the wrong idea between them. Violet looked at Eren and Armin and said in the most gentle yet firm tone she could muster, "While what Levi says is true, the part about me getting killed that is, if it comes down to it, I will do it." Her eyes met Eren's, "I promise you, Eren, that if you can't do it, I will. I won't force you to do something that you don't want. If the safety of humanity and regaining Wall Rose comes at the price of my death, then so be it. I will do it if I have to. End of discussion." She could feel Levi's gaze on her face, could feel the intensity of his eyes. He was not happy with what she said, was not happy that she agreed to do something he was not willing to let happen. He would not lose her, would not lose someone again. Not, her. Especially not her. But she was so gods damn stubborn it made him mad, always going against his words. Always putting herself in the line just so others don't meet their gruesome fates. He hated that, her kindness, although he loved it most of the time. He hated it when it came to cases like this, when she was willing to give up her life for another. Levi Ackerman did not want that to happen.
