Six Years Later.

Wall Maria fell five years ago.
Just at the same time as Violet completed a whole year of being a Captain to a squad of her own. It was a terrifying time for humanity, seeing the walls that swore to protect them all be demolished by the very beings that threatened their lives. They had said it had been paralyzing, the sight of two titans like never-seen-before destroy the walls and let in more of their kind. That the shaking created by each step the creatures took threatened to weaken the very foundation of this world. The sounds of people crying and shouting for their lives was like hearing the bells to hell, the worst sound to ever grace this land. And seeing meters tall beings grinning as they took humans into their grasps and devoured them whole was something no one would recover from anytime soon.
The whole of Wall Maria was destroyed beyond imaginable. Uncountable amounts of lives were taken, right in front of the eyes of their loved ones. Houses filled with cherished memories were destroyed with just one foot; and no one could do a single thing to stop it, other than run away from said danger in fear. It was hard for humanity, a day no one would forget as long as they lived; and would continue to be talked about as long as the generations continued to grow. And the damage was still present even if five years had passed since that haunting day.
The Survey Corps hadn't been there when the walls came down. Had been away on a mission killing the same beings that caused irreversible damage to the place they loved. When they had arrived back at the gates and heard the news, it was safe to say no one took it well. Knowing that people were lost, homes were lost, many things that meant a lot were gone while they were out there instead of being there, where they were needed the most, was a tough toll on their shoulders. They were humanity's protectors, the ones who had sworn to protect them along with the walls, and they had failed to do just that.

But now, five years later, they would not allow for that same history to repeat over again. They had just come back from a mission. They had been gone since the very morning and had just managed to come back to the Survey Corps. Violet was exhausted, had used her powers once more to the point of passing out. It was a miracle she was standing up straight after foolishly using her powers past her breaking point. But she had managed to save countless lives that were more important than her current well-being, so to her, it was all that mattered. Her squad had all come back safely, thank the gods. Even after being with them for such a long time, even when she knew they were more than capable of holding their ground, she always feared they wouldn't come back. She didn't express it, didn't let it show, but the thought of them not coming back plagued her mind every single mission. She got off her horse and led it to get some rest. She was about to head to her room when a cadet came running frantically at her, eyes threatening to leave his skull.

She approached the cadet and placed her hand on his back. Her squad gathered around her as they waited for the cadet to catch his breath. "Are you alright, cadet?" She asked.
"Trost District..." He said between pants. "Trost district has...been breached."
The words the cadet muttered threatened to knock her off her feet. Trost District had been breached. She couldn't believe it. She must have heard it wrong. "Trost District...was breached?"
The cadet just nodded his head, still trying to catch his breath.
But Violet didn't have time to catch hers as Thomas pushed his way through his squadmates and barked at them to move out of the way. As soon as he managed to walk a step away, Violet grabbed him by his arm, bringing him to a stop. "What are you even thinking, Cadet? Stop."
Thomas only attempted to pull his arm away, the sheer determination to get away clear in his body language. "I have to go, Captain. My family." He said, "They are from Trost District. I have to get to them."
"Are you out of your mind? You cannot go there. You have not survived this far to just get yourself killed right there." She was being too harsh, she knew it. But Thomas was not thinking straight, was not in the right mind to go there on his own. So she would protect him from his death, even if she was being cold right now.
"But my mom and my two sisters, Violet. I cannot leave them."
"Do you understand what's going on there, right? It's the same thing with Wall Maria, Thomas. You cannot go there by yourself, especially under this condition."
"Please. Please, Captain. They are all I got left. They are my family."
And he was a member of her family too. While not blood related, he cared for the damn cadet more than she showed. Her little squad was the family she never got to enjoy before she was betrayed by them, so she would protect this one with her very body if need be. She had seen him grow for years now, ever since he was seventeen till now at the age of twenty-three. And she would be damned if she let him die at such a young age. But she knew how important they were to him, had heard him talk about them with such love and adoration till her ears threatened to burst. She had felt his love for them as he spoke, even with the look in his eyes.
She sighed, hoping she wasn't going to regret the decision she was about to make. "Fine, we'll go with you." She said, "But if we cannot find them, we come back and that's it. You drop it, okay?"
Thomas smiled at her before he left to get geared up.
