≫ ──── ≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫ ──── ≪"They're moving! Multiple two to three meters approaching!"
Matters could always get worse, was a lesson that Violet Grey learned over and over again. From throwing boulders to approaching stampedes of titans was probably not the worse that was yet to come, however.
"Levi and Hanji squad! Take down the Armoured Titan." Erwin ordered, "Achieve your objectives whatever it takes."
A wave of cadets moved on the spot, jumping off the wall to commence the mission. Violet stood there with her squad, looking at everyone move dumbfoundedly while no specific orders were assigned to them. Only Levi remained there with them, however, although his squad got on the move; but it did not cease her confusion as to why Erwin had not thrown her into the battlefield like he usually did.
"Erwin." Her steps were more like stumps against the floor, "What about my squad?"
He turned around, but not to face her, instead, he looked straight to Levi as if she was not even there. "I did say Levi Squad, but I need you to stay, Levi." And then he turned to her, "You too, Violet."
"To protect the horses and not Eren?" Levi's voice had nothing short of annoyance.
"That's right." He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, pointing the edge of his sword towards the massive fury titan a good meters away from them, "And to strike him down when the chance comes."
"Understood." Levi walked to the edge of the wall, hands gripping his gear, "Since I failed to kill that armoured brat earlier, I'll make up for it with the beast titan's head."
But before he jumped, Violet placed a boot forward. "Wait, Levi." Erwin turned away from them, sensing the need for space for the couple. Violet grabbed Levi's hand on her own and looked up to his face, "Please. I know I say this all the time, but please, please be careful, Levi." Her voice had become nothing more but a whisper in the wind. She knew that if she talked higher than that, she would break immediately at the thought of losing him. Losing him because they had never faced such a beast like the titan that Levi had already marked as his target. So, yes, she would ask him to be careful, no matter if she had voiced such concerns a million times.
When it came to Levi, she would make it clear to the man that he had become a dependency in her life that she would never be able to live without. And for that remainder alone, she softened her voice even more. "Whatever you do, please come back."
Levi moved his hand off his gear and placed it on her head, patting it like he always did to her. "Don't worry about such things, brat." His eyes shined with reassurance to her, "I will always come back to you. I don't think an ugly fucking thing like that would bring me down." His eyes turned to the beast titan, showing her what he meant.
She let out a long breath. "Please be careful, okay?" She ran a hand against his cheek, "I'll be watching over you all the time."
He nodded at her words and stepped away from her, attaching his gear to the wall. She watched his figure as he became smaller and smaller the farther he got away until he was barely in her sight, and then she walked towards Erwin.
"Erwin. What about my squad?" He hadn't answered her question before and it had pissed her off.
"I need them to stay here too. Armin can fill you in on the plan."
"And me? I can be of help in the field, my squad included."
"You'll stay here to protect Armin if things go wrong. Your squad too."
Gods damn him. "We can do much more out there than watch them fall from here, you know?" She spitted out, "Why is it that you always underestimate me and my squad?"
"You'll stay here and that's an order, Captain Grey."
She usually never hated him. In fact, she actually looked up to the man the same way Levi did. But moments like this, when he treated her like the very dirt beneath his feet, she despised him more than anything on this world.
He reminded her of Austin, that same sort of arrogancy and bruteness that he displayed on the Keep towards her and the rest of the assassins all the time. Like they were nothing more than people who did his dirty work while he became richer and richer.
Sometimes, Erwin reminded her of that man and she did not like it. Because she knew Erwin was better than him--- much, much better. But she couldn't help the comparison that automatically happened in her mind when he acted as if he had a stick up his ass.
