The forest in the mountains was not a very pleasant place compared to their small cottage.
However, it was the safest place they would be at after the Military Police raided the small home and arrested Erwin back in the Capital. Erwin, arrested by the Military Police. And now they were after them.
It was like playing a game of cats and mice, and they were the prey the cat so desperately wanted. The Military Police was hunting them down, one by one, until they had them all.
For what reason, she wished she knew. But she did have a few ideas in mind and all of them made her blood rage as it did not justify whatever the hell the police was doing.
They were bitter little worms for pulling this stunt. For trying to catch them all and bring them to 'justice' for no reason at all. Maybe for some petty crime they fabricated.

"What's more, why do they want us to hand over Eren and Historia? And Violet?" Hanji asked.
"Who knows? It's clear that the enemy is after them." Levi said.
Well, damn. Violet swallowed down the knot on her throat. The thought that the Military Police was hunting down for her made bile rise at her throat. That was not good, the fact that they were after her. After all they did before, if they were looking for her then it meant---No, no, no. It was not good news, at least not for her. Or anyone. "Loitering around here is dangerous, we got to move. We have to move these two to Trost District." Violet ordered, looking at no one specifically.
"Why? That's the same place Pastor Nick was killed?" Moblit asked, looking at her as if she was insane.
"It's worse to head towards the interior. With Trost in a panic, it should be easy to slip in. And if somehow it comes down to it, we can use this in the city." Levi moved his cape slightly, motioning towards his 3D manoeuvre gear. Right, that would be very convenient for them if it came down to it.
"Not knowing the enemy puts us in a tough spot, however." Julian said, arms crossed against his chest, "We need to find out who's behind this--"
"--before they hunt us down." Violet ends. They turn to look at each other and their expressions mirrored the other, their minds racing to figure out a good plan. Their whole assassin training kicked in --not like it was not active all the time-- making them become the old versions of themselves; cold, calculated and ruthless. Their aura shifted, and it was a scary sight to behold. They were walking death, ready to bring down whatever crossed their path that could be harmful. With the situation they found themselves in, they needed to become the version of themselves they hated the most. Especially when many loved ones were at risk.

They looked scary, sure. It wasn't for no reason that they were the two best assassins out in the field. "Hanji, lend me some of your squad. Violet and I will join forces. Take some of hers if you need." Levi said.
"Of course," Hanji said, "I'm going after Erwin."

Violet loved the town. No matter in which district she found herself or on which wall, every town and the vendors with their stands made her giddy.
She loved food, the items, the small stuff they sold. If it was up to her, she would probably stop to buy some food that made her mouth water. But they were on a mission right now, and having Levi on her side would mean the man would stop her as soon as she took one single step away from him. So, no. Maybe another day, though. If they made it out alive, that is.
As if sensing her thoughts, or maybe he just wanted her touch, Levi grabbed Violet's hand and brought her closer to him, their capes hiding the interaction from the cadets walking behind. The gesture had caught her off-guard, but she wasn't complaining. In fact, it was taking a lot for her to not let herself smile a toothy grin. Even more when she squeezed his hand in her own and he squeezed it back, a silent touch of reassurance.

They stopped before a crowd that gathered around the town's centre, Military Police cadets talking on a stage. What they talked about, Violet could care less. But if she was to guess, it certainly was not something good about them or the entirety of the Survey Corps.
So they continued walking, not even bothering to hear what was being said about them. They turned into a corner where more stands were, and again, Violet took her time to half-pretend she was looking around; because while she did look at the goods they offered, and made a good mental note about the things she wanted for next time, she was also on the lookout for any danger or threat coming their way. She was more than good at multitasking, if she allowed herself to brag, so she could do both tasks just as well.
And as if the world was testing such skills held with so much pride, Violet and Levi felt something coming from behind them at the same time. They turned around as quickly as they felt it, Levi yelled, "Watch out! Behind us!"
Levi tackled Violet out of the way, shielding her body with his, as a carriage rush past them, running over exactly where they were. Everyone managed to get out in time. However, they picked up Eren and Historia and threw them to the wagon.

But there was no reason for them to worry. As those were not Eren and Historia.
For once, something was going to plan. Just like they had expected, they would be after Eren and Historia. Violet included, but her ambush would not be as easy and expected as theirs. After all, they did know who they were dealing with when it came to her; and she was terrifying when she was in a good state, the most lethal being they had ever seen.
Jean and Armin dressed up as the two other targets: Jean as Eren and Armin as Historia. And so the plan got put into play, and it worked exactly just how they wanted. And instead of taking the two they wanted, they took with them the ones that did not hold the same value as Eren and Historia. Imagine the surprise they would take once they discover that this Eren Jaeger is a bit taller than the original Eren Jaeger.
Levi got off Violet and offered her his hand, pulling her up as she grasped it. They turn to look towards the carriage that drove far away from them.
Now they needed to follow the plan. Mikasa got up and ran away, following what she had to do. And as everyone split ways till it was only them two and Julian, Violet let out a sigh. Julian came up to her and placed his hand on her shoulder, giving it a slight squeeze. He reassured her with a small smile before he left for the place he needed to be.

While Julian left to where Mikasa headed, to take care of Jean and Armin, Levi and Violet went to look for the real Eren.
They followed the wagon that had Eren and Historia, hidden from the naked eye. They landed on a roof as the wagon came to a stop, a crowd of people blocking the way through. As they hid, other cadets from Hanji's squad joined them, taking cover with them.
Levi and Violet took one side while the other cadet, Nifa, took the wall opposite to them. The other one stood a bit far away from them, acting as their eyes.
Levi grabbed Violet's waist with one hand while he supported himself with the other, getting close to her to get a better look at what was going on down there. "It's not much farther to Commander Pixis," Violet stated, as she kept her eyes grounded on the carriage.
"Yeah, it shouldn't take them long." Nifa said, "How's the body double mission?"
"A success. Went as planned."
"And yet, you two don't look that happy..."
"No...something's wrong," Levi said.

She sensed it, too. The feeling poisoning the air.
This was too...easy. Which shouldn't be a bad thing, but in this case it was. Violet did not peel her eyes from the wagon, thinking it was them they were going to attack and go after.
But then Levi pushed her forward. Violet went rolling down the roof, using her hands and nails to come to a stop before she could tumble off from the great height and into the ground. She barely managed to save herself, stopping when her head was hanging from a good fall to below. She heard Levi shout for Nifa went a bullet went off. And Violet pushed herself, hand going for one of her daggers, and moved to look for a new hiding spot despite her pounding head. Gods, she had barely recuperated from her previous tumble.
She saw Levi hide behind the front of the chimney, looking back at who had attacked them. Violet hooked her gear to a wall and made herself spin before she plunged her dagger down on one of her attacker's throat. She pulled it back as quick as it went in and moved on, keeping an eye on Levi.

They, whoever they were, were good; and they were certainly not from the Military Police. This ambush was too perfect, too precise, for it to be something out of the Military Police's ass.
No, whoever they were, she could tell they received some high-quality training. Just like the one she had received back in the Underground, during her time as an assassin. She could tell they were not assassin's, at least not like the kind she was, not by the way they moved and everything about them. But they were lethal and they were making this whole thing more complicated than it should be.

Things were going to shit, again.
