⋘ ──── ∗ ⋅◈⋅ ∗ ──── ⋙The vacancy in her heart left her head roaming around for any subject that would bring her pain. Any memory that would make her heart wrench in pure agony and despair.
Violet's mind was making her relieve all those precious memories she had made with Julian in the short time they had. The time she had taken for granted because she had thought she had forever and on with Julian, that she had the rest of her life to be by his side.
But she had been wrong, so terribly wrong. Her body did not feel her own.
Not when she looked down at her hands, free of blood for once, and saw them moving, instead of them being lifeless like those hands she would no longer get to hold. Not the way her body carried the weight of its own, even when she felt the weight of the world finally crashing down on her.
And especially not with the new ancient magic that made up every cell in her body.
She couldn't form a single clear thought about this new magic that had ignited to take up the space of the hole that Julian left behind in her soul. Could not begin to wrap her head around it. Or to really care about it.
Not when she had lost something so great.
All she knew, all she could manage to feel about that, was that they were forever hers to wield. That they were something ancient, something wicked. And they had a force and an outstanding amount of power, greater than any she had wielded before.Perhaps before she would've given more thought to the change that happened to her body, would've been more excited or alarmed, but she could feel nothing but even more pain when she thought about such a thing; pain because she no longer had the one person she would've told everything she felt or thought to.
She no longer had Julian.
And the world felt so much darker, so much more miserable than before. All those bright colours that she regained back, that had dominated the most recent years of her life, were starting to go dull once more. She could see those shadows in her peripheral vision, could see those familiar shades taking over once more.
Violet could feel that fire extinguish once more. And it felt a little bit harder to breathe, to make her lungs gasp for the air they needed to make her live. And on the rooftop she sat, her legs dangling in the air, she could only look beyond the ground she was at; to the place she had last seen him alive.Levi sat down next to her and he could feel her grief radiating from her, how it consumed her soul and how those E/C eyes he loved with all his heart were losing their shine.
When she had told him, when he carried them both to this roof, about Julian, the only words she needed to say, that she had only said to him, was he's dead.
Levi understood. Had understood why her aura seem to darken to the most melancholic, heartbreaking shade it could possibly master.
And when he put her down and she walked to the edge of the roof, sat down and started to cry, Levi didn't know what words he could offer, what action, to make everything better. He wished he was gifted with the touch of calmness, that he knew how to comfort a person in a dire situation like this. Because he did not like seeing his Violet like this. Did not like how those feelings consumed her heart that had already dealt with enough.
He just wrapped his arms around her. While his hold was awkward, arms tense at first, he slowly let go of that insecurity, of that foreignness that such affection brought to him, and brought her closer. And Violet wept. Big, salty tears staining his shirt.
But Levi didn't care. He only cared for Violet. That she would be okay. That's all that mattered to him. That she would not succumb to that same darkness that had devoured her whole years ago. That she would keep on fighting. Because he did not want to see that emptiness, that pure darkness, again in her eyes. Did not want to see the shadows and monsters that used to lurk behind her eyes. To see that loss of hope in her spirit. To see that fire long extinguish once more.
And maybe it was that he was scared, but Levi told her about the friends he had lost.
"Their names were Farlan and Isabel." He couldn't help the shake that came with the words, with those names. They felt so weird on his tongue, names he hadn't pronounced in years. "They lived with me in the Underground. For as long as I can remember. They were there with me even when I didn't want them. And they...they became special to me. A family I never had the luxury to have."
And so he told her. Levi shared with Violet Grey the story of those two brave souls he had lost. How they came to the above for a mission to kill Erwin Smith among other stuff. How they had been caught. How Erwin, although he knew about their intentions, their plot, showed mercy to them when they probably did not deserve it.
He told her everything. Every single detail she needed to know. Her breathing became slower as her sobs stopped rocking her body, but she did not remove her face from the crook of his neck as she listened to his voice, at what he was saying.
And when Levi was getting closer to the cruellest part of it all, to the part that had him waking shaking, dripping with cold sweat, he felt a knot forming in his throat. Felt how his voice threatened to quiver as he started telling her all.
