That was all Violet wondered as she saw Annie inside of the hardened skin that she had wrapped herself in be taken away in a wagon off to the gods know where. Finally, something was over. They could finally take a break from the horrors that the female titan caused and from all the heartbreak she had inflicted. It was over now, that gruesome chapter. But it did not mean that something was not lurking for them, because if she knew any better, then this was far, far from over.
She stood beside Levi and made sure the wagon got away, their eyes never leaving it till it was nothing but a blurred figure off in the distance. Violet let out a long sigh and let her shoulders drop a little, allowing her body to rest for a minute. She was tired, so gods damn tired. And she bet that Levi was too, after everything they just went through. Although they had not participated in the battle against the female titan, they had worked just as hard as the cadets to create the plans and strategies to make the whole mission work. It was because of their brilliant minds that they had been able to pull off such a mission with such great risks, it was all because of them. So they were very well tired, burned out to oblivion.Violet could feel it inside of her that she would finally be able to sleep soundly once again due to how her aching bones moaned for some rest, knew that, because of all of her hard work, once her head hit the pillow she would be out as fast as she closed her eyes. She wanted that, so badly. Practically craved it like a starving animal. But that rest would have to wait a bit longer for a while because as she was walking away to the carriage that would take her back home, the wails and gasps of the cadets shook her tired mind awake. Levi and Violet turned to look at their cadets, body and eyes alarmed for any danger, hands reaching for any weapon they had on them; but nothing was coming for them, no danger around, just them looking up to the wall with their hands shaking as they pointed up. Their eyes followed to where they were pointing and the sight made Violet more awake, her desired sleep long forgotten. The cadets had every right to be gasping because she would be too if she could feel fear. In a spot where the wall had broken, a small gap that revealed something massive and chilling, was a titan opening its eyes from a long, long nap. The titan was not outside the wall, she saw. No, this titan was between the walls, the two structures acting as its home and protection from human eyes; till now. And it was staring at them with the one eye that had a view of the outside.
It did not make any sense, not at all. How would it be there? How didn't they know? Nothing made sense to her, not one single thing could explain how this titan appeared there. And how they did not know about its existence. Violet looked at Levi, who was staring at the titan without revealing a single thing on his face. He must be lost, too, so damn lost. She shook her head slightly as her mind started turning and working faster than she could keep up. If one titan was inside the wall, resided in it, then it meant that there were others. That there were more titans inside the wall, just like the one they had just discovered. And if that was the case, which surely it was, how did they get there? What even happened to get them to be there? Why did they have to be there? It just didn't make any sense. She started thinking as to why they would be there and only one reason made sense. But she wasn't about to share it with Levi or Hanji until she was sure, until she knew and could prove that they were there for that reason. The only thing she knew for sure was that this was far, far from over. And if anything, they were just getting started on to the next chapter. But when this was going to be over? She did not know. Especially when she heard Pastor Nick say, "Whatever you do...you must keep that titan out of the sunlight."
✥
"Tch. Those damn titans never give us a break." Levi groaned, closing the door behind them. They had just received news that Wall Rose was breached and that titans were roaming inside, which made the Commander call Violet and Levi immediately to hatch a plan. Upon the news reaching the two Captain's ears, they had come as soon as they could, leaving any other duty they had to do on hold. "Can you two go?" Erwin asked, eyes roaming the two in a serious frown.
"It's not like we have much of a choice." Levi's expression was bored, dull even. He was tired, that much Violet could tell. The way his shoulders wanted to hunch but he held his posture back, the deepening bags under his eyes, the silent yawns he let out when he thought nobody was watching-- She felt bad that he couldn't get a rest, but this was their duty; what they were obligated to do, regardless of how exhausted they were. It was the way the world worked.
"It was wise to have Section Commander Miche watch the 104th," a cadet, Erwin's assistant she assumed, said, "I believe he can handle the situation." Violet nodded, when his eyes landed on her, agreeing with what he said. Miche was a good soldier, considered one of humanity's strongest soldiers after Levi and her, so he was indeed more than capable of taking care of whatever was thrown his way.
"Let's hope so," Erwin mumbled. Which was also true, because no matter how good someone was, how high their kill count reached, it did not mean that they were unbeatable, immortal. She had learned that the hard way.
"Violet," Erwin called.
"Yes, sir." Her eyes went to him.
"The material Leonhart wrapped herself in, I was wondering.." He said, "Is it the same as yours? The one you can create?"
Her brows furrowed in a confused stare. "Yes, I think it is. I've been able to see it from up close multiple times and it looks the same as mine. Even feels the same."
He hummed, facing once more the massive window in the room and did not say something else, leaving her in the dark. Her frown only got deeper, thinking the reason behind why he asked that. He had never shown too much interest in her powers, aside from the first time they were brought to his attention and when it came to missions. He never cared much past that, only showed interest when it came in regards to humanity and the Survey Corps. So for Erwin to ask her such a question, it left her wondering and confused. "Can I know why you ask?" She demanded.
He kept staring outside, not even made an indication if he had listened to what she said. But after a few minutes, he only said, "Go to Hanji. It's time to go."
She nodded her head and bit back her remark, knew it was better to keep her mouth shut. She gave them her back and started walking away. "I'll go, too," Levi said, his steps sounding behind her.
