≫ ──── ≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫ ──── ≪Violet Grey was never one with smart ideas when it came to her health and safety.
So although her head was pounding like when hail hits the roof, and her whole body felt like she had just gone through the worst beat up of her life, she did not obey that little voice in her head that told her to rest. To let the guards take her somewhere safe.
Safety will only be when all of this was over.
She pretended some more to be disorientated, that she was not feeling good, before she slammed her elbow against the guard who held her by the arms and she kicked the other one in front, using the impulse she gained from the guard behind to kick him harder and farther. The other guards reacted when they saw her move, but Violet was quicker and she swept them off to the floor.
And then she ran.
Running with a pounding headache, and aching bones, was not a good mix. But Violet kept on running, even faster as she heard the guards shout after her and the loud echo their boots created bouncing against the walls. She could not stay wherever it is they were taking her, sit down, and pretend that everything was good. That with a simple prayer to whatever god was listening would fix everything and they would win. Violet could not do that. She had to be out there, helping any way she could, instead of being there with other cowards and their anxiety eating them up.
Through all her professions in her life -- which were not many ---, no matter what it was and the nature of it, no matter that it consisted of killing and bloodshed, one thing she always swore to herself was that she would protect those innocent. That she would never harm a child or those who had nothing to do with whatever it was that was considered impure.
And she had to protect Eren. Although the boy had messed up before with them, which had made them all lose their trust in him, she still believed in him. For some reason, she did. And with the vision he had just shown her, it was more important now to back him up.
Going back to the rooftop was impossible now. Not with the guards following behind her and the fact that half of the rooftop was no longer a rooftop. So she did the best next option she had.
Instead of turning left and continuing running down the hallways, she kept going straight and braced her body as she smashed the window, falling to the ground. She rolled to mortify the fall from so high up, maybe two floors of height, and got up, her legs like quicksilver as she ran.
Looking up, men were falling from the airship, descending into their parachutes.
And as they began to cover the sky, blocking whatever was left of the sun, Violet made her magic come to light. Her magic burned in her veins and the mark on her forehead stung. She hadn't used her magic this way for so long-- in the sense of the killing purpose she was about to use it now for. The last time she had used it was to kill raw titan's a long, long time ago; and occasionally she used her hardening abilities to cover her blades or hands. But that was about it.
So to summon it all now --- maybe not at full force, but more than before --- was a strange thing to feel ignite in her veins. Her magic was ravenous, had wanted to get out of her system for a long time now. And it had been waiting. And as she turned a corner, still running with all her might, she killed the first man with her own magic. Her first human kill using magic.
She didn't have time to think about what that meant to her, nor did she have time to gather how she felt about seeing the body drop down after burning him from the inside. Instead, she just kept running, looking out for Eren as he fought the Armoured Titan.
Reiner. Holy gods. It's been a long time since she'd last seen him. But it's not like she missed him. The ill feelings towards him, those she had gained once they all discovered who he really was, still lingered in her heart.
So as quickly as the thought came, it left, and Violet continued to kill more men as they aimed their guns at her and fired. Magic left her hands with every dodge and turn she made, bringing men down like a game of domino she reigned. It's been a long time since she fought humans like this, almost skin to skin if you squinted a little. And maybe it was skin to skin as she made a blade in her hand with her hardening and set it up in flames. She sliced the vicious she-made blade into a man's neck and brought him down, wasting no time hiding it deep into another's chest.
And on and on she went, leaving no one in her wake. Violet never stopped running, aiming to go nowhere if she was being honest. As long as she was always close to Eren, then that to her was all that mattered.
But soon she was made to run with an aim, as a literal earth-shattering bomb went off from the Cart Titan's back and the buildings around her started to collapse. Violet barely had time to complete a shield around her with her magic as she ran, now dodging the falling debris from the mess they had just caused.
There was a house up ahead, that had not been touched by the bomb, and she ran up there with all she got left; her lungs were burning with each gasp, with each step she took. And just because she had no time to waste, no time to consider a proper entrance, she slammed her body against the walls of the house and forced her way in, the bricks turning into dust as the force and her magic acted the way when waves hit rocks.
If it was even further possible, her body ached even more. A groan left her lips as she lay in the debris she had created and she did not make herself get up until her ears stopped ringing that awful white noise and her muscles felt steady enough that they wouldn't suddenly give up on her.
This house, just like many in the sector, had long since been abandoned. Everything inside was intact, as if it was frozen in time. Nothing looked out of place, as if what was happening outside was not even real. It was so neat, so untouched, it was crazy to think that this place had been kissed with the seal of death.
Her throat was in a knot as she got to what would be the kitchen area and the small dining room. Everything was there just like the owners of this house had left them as. Four bowls around the table, spoons and utensils beside said bowls, and four cups for each member. This was the set-up for a meal--- a family meal. Not one of them suspected that this would've been their last meal together here in this house, or overall, if they even had the luxury of such a thing; but judging by the empty bowls and the fact that there was no foul scent, it told her enough that such a thing hadn't happened.
But what further got her throat in a knot, to the point where Violet could not breathe, was when her E/C eyes caught sight of a bear on the floor by one of the chairs. There were children in this house. A family. Young children, judging by the drawings in one of the kitchen cabinets that were just a bunch of scribbles and lines.
They must've been so scared. They didn't know what was going on when hell rained down upon all of them, so out of the blue. They probably didn't even know about the great evils of this world and did not know who to fear. What they should fear.
And what pained her the most was the fact that they probably experienced that paralyzing fear all the way to the end.
Violet grasped her head in her hands and kneeled on the floor, letting out a sigh of many built-up emotions. Just when everyone thought everything was back to normal, that the beauty behind the madness had bloomed, they were proven wrong. They were always proven wrong.≫ ──── ≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫ ──── ≪
