chapter twenty four: (part 4) mysterious happenings

(Kwazii's pov)
Saber did a front flip out of the gup-C after we arrived in the launch bay "what happened to the gups?" Tweak asked worried, "a giant squid happened" saber mewed annoyed, "giant squids aren't usually hostile" inkling hummed, "well, this one sure was" saber retorted, waving her bandage wrapped tail in irritation "hey treasure, why don't we head to our room so you can rest your tail" I asked, "Kwazii's right, you really should rest up, it's been a long day for everyone" the captain agreed, "alright then" saber huffed, crossing her arms. I don't know what's stirred her up but I have a feeling it's something to do with the attack

after entering our room, saber flopped onto me bed "you okay?" I asked, saber sighed "not really" she turned her head slightly to look at me "whenever that giant squid attacked me, he threw the gup against a rock and knocked me out" she explained, "is you're head alright?" I asked worried, "yeah.." she paused as she sat up "have you ever had a dream when you were unconscious?" She continued, "no, what did you dream about?" I said, wrapping my arm around me kit's shoulders "I woke up in the octopod but I couldn't find anyone, you were all....gone" saber's voice cracking at the last word, "I promise we'd never leave you" I gasped pulling her into a hug, "promise?" Saber questioned, tilting her head up to look me in the eye "a pirate never leaves his family behind or me names not kwazii" I assured, a faint smile crept across me little treasures face as she nuzzled into me chest like she did the day I found her

Soon Tunip and Coddish came though the door, Tunip holding a tray with two cups of hot cocoa, Coddish had a tray of fish biscuits. They each babbled something to saber as they sat the biscuits on the bed and the mugs on the bedside table "thanks mates, preciate it" saber chuckled, still have no idea how she's able to understand the little creatures. the twosome chirped once more earning a head nod from the young black cat before leaving "what were they saying?" I inquired, turning back to saber "they said they noticed something was bugging me so they wanted to make me feel better" she replied, "that's nice" I awed, "well, that's the vegetamals for ya" saber responded, a light laugh escaping her lips as she handed me one of the mugs

(CB's pov)
"What got into saber?" Dashi questioned, "the squid grabbed the gup-D and threw it against a rock and knocked saber unconscious, she woke up in a panic and I had to calm her down" I explained, "panic? But saber never panics" oasis said sounding confused, "anyone can panic after regaining consciousness sis, weather it's in character for them or not" my son explained, "river's right" peso added nodding, I know there's more to the story, saber doesn't know a single thing about her past other growing up on the octopod, I have a feeling our pasts are more alike than not "you alright cap?" Tweak asked, placing a paw on my right wrist "why were clawing at you're fur?" Shellington asked concerned, "I..didn't even realize I was" I spoke in a hushed tone, moving my eyes to the floor "is something wrong?" The professor asked, "no..just thinking is all" I replied, placing my paws on my waist in a halfhearted attempt to convince my crew nothing was wrong

"Can barnacles and I have a moment alone please?" Nora asked, the crew nodded and gave her the privacy she requested "I know something's wrong dear, I know just as well as tweak that the only time you claw at you're fur is when something's bothering you" she spoke, walking up to me and taking my paws in her own "can you tell me what's going through your mind?" She asked, I shook my head as the words got caught up in my throat "well, come with me darling, I think it's time you listened to your own advice and relaxed for a while" she continued in her calm tone, kissing my cheek. I nodded and paw in paw we went to our room and rested..really  rested
