chapter fifteen: (part 2) scars of the past

(A few days later)

(Barnacles's pov)
"We're right on course captain" dashi said happily with a smile turning around in her chair, "good work dashi, steady as she goes" I responded returning the friendly smile, "aye, at this rate we'll be in Antarctica in no time" saber added as she brought up a map of the octopods course to the anarchic, "I wonder what kind of creatures we'll find there" Shellington exclaimed excitedly, "who knows matey but whatever happens I'm sure it'll be exciting...and cold" kwazii remarked, kwazii loves excitement but he gets cold easily,  me on the other hand, I'm made for the cold weather and adventure is near and dear to my heart, more so than people think it would be, "well this cat is going to enjoy exploring it either way" saber laughed, she enjoys the snow and ice, I don't exactly know where she gets that from but it definitely proves she's not biologically related to kwazii sense he hates it "I'm with you on that one saber" I remarked, saber turned and smiled at me, then some strange noises came from outside the octopod "yeow, what be making that scurvy noise?" Kwazii asked, "dashi, activate periscope" I ordered, "on it captain" dashi responded, I looked through the periscope and saw exactly what I expected to see "walruses" I exclaimed, "we must be close to a walrus colony" I explained, "indeed captain, my map shows a rocky beach not far from here" saber added, I nodded in response and went back to looking through the periscope, I watched the two walruses for a while, they reminded me of what happened to my eye, I pulled back from the periscope and signed at the memory, then the octopod started to shake

"What's happening?" Peso asked his voice shaking, "we're entering some rough seas, hold on mateys" saber exclaimed as she took over steering the ship, the octopod started to shake once more, this time I lost my balance and hit my head on the binocular-shaped end of the periscope causing me to fall, "captain" kwazii and peso shouted in unison, "that one hurt" I remarked with a slight laugh as I sat up right and shook my head, "are you alright?" Peso asked his brain on medical autopilot, "I'm fine peso" I reassured him as I stood up, then my left eye started twitching slightly, ever since the injury it does that occasionally, I rubbed it with my paw as the feeling is quite annoying "is your eye alright matey?" Kwazii asked concerned, "let me guess, it's twitching again" tweak mused as she walked up to us "unfortunately" I replied with slight annoyance in my voice, tweak chuckled lightly before taking a bite of her carrot

"Twitching?" Shellington asked confused, "it's from an old injury" tweak explained, "what happened?" Saber questioned, "a walrus tusk happened" I remarked, "a walrus tusk?" Peso gasped, "yep, it left a cut across the captain's eye, he's almost blind from it" tweak explained casually, "so you can't see out of your left eye at all?" Kwazii questioned, "I can slightly, just not very well" I explained, peso pulled his otoscope out of his medical bag and proceeded to shine the light in my eyes "mm, your left eye isn't responding to light" peso pondered, "I'd say if you're not now your most likely going to be completely blind in that eye at some point" peso explained, "that doesn't surprise me, it happened when I was a cub, I'm pretty used to having only one working eye so that won't be a problem" I inform him, I don't remember how old I was, I just remember the severe physical pain that came with it, my old polar scout leader, Professor natquick, was surprised at how well I handled that much pain as a young cub, I have a feeling I'm about to be bombarded with questions
