chapter nineteen: (part 3) the arctic fox

(Barnacles's pov)
We entered the research station and began searching for whoever sent the call for help "mmm" I heard saber hum, "found something?" I questioned the young kitten, "yeah...someone's been busy" she replied handing me an open book filled with what looked like someone's research notes and exploration records, "this still doesn't make any sense, who could be living here?" I pondered out loud as I looked over the page the book was opened to, this...hand writing looks...familiar, where have I seen it before? I was torn away from my thoughts when my boisterous lieutenant entered the room rather loudly "YEOW" he shouted front flipping though the entrance making me jump slightly, I growled slightly in agitation as Kwazii's loud voice filled the once quiet room "you could warn me before you do that" I explained whilst rubbing my sensitive ears with my paws, "sorry captain.." kwazii apologized, "it's alright" I responded, "a warning for what dear?" Nora asked entering the room, "well let's put it this way, sometimes the captain's sensitive hearing is a little too sensitive" saber remarked, "heh..tell me about it..." I added, this is kinda similar to something that happened after I found kwazii

(Flashback)

(Barnacles's pov)
It's been a couple days since I found an injured cat in the middle of the ocean, he revealed his name to be kwazii, when I first initially found him, he was covered in cuts and bruises, he's been staying in the sick bay well he recovers "how do you think he ended up in the ocean captain?" Dashi questioned as I was marking things off my clipboard, before I could answer peso came out of the octo-shoot, "captain-" he started but was cut off by kwazii somersaulting out of the octo-shoot with a meow that faded into a snarl, I fell back onto the floor as his eruption of noise caught me off guard

"oh, sorry matey, I didn't mean to startle ya" kwazii explained as he grabbed my arm to help me up, "it's alright, that happens with me and loud noises" I explained dusting off my navy colored shirt, "loud noises?" Dashi questioned confused as I picked up my clipboard and pencil, "yeah, the cap's hearing is better than mine" tweak explained before munching on her signature carrot, "tell me something I don't know" I laughed as I walked over next to the mint furred rabbit, "okay smart aleck" tweak halfheartedly scolded before playfully shoving my shoulder to witch I chuckled in response, "now you two, kwazii do you know how you ended up in the ocean?" Inkling asked, "I've always been on or around the sea, I may be a cat but I'm also a pirate, I've always loved swimming" kwazii explained, "as I thought" I remarked, "what'd ya mean?" The ginger cat asked surprised as he raised his eyepatch with his paw, "I've dealt with some pirates in my time, although I well say none of them were as friendly as you" I explained, Kwazii's ears went down and he looked somewhat sad "arrg, that be the one thing that makes me ashamed to be a pirate meself, everyone thinks pirates are bad but not all of us are" he exclaimed to the point of borderline yelling as he walked over and sat at the table on the other side of the HQ, I walked over and stood next to him, I placed my paw on his shoulder in a comforting manner

"I was out swimming one day when I heard something struggling, I dove underwater and found a dolphin stuck in a fishnet, I used me sword to cut it free and it swam to the surface faster than anything I've ever seen, I made sure the dolphin was okay and she thanked me for rescuing her, I just wish more pirates were like that" kwazii added quietly before slamming his head down on the table, "not gonna lie that actually hurt" he remarked turning back to face the crew, then I had an idea "um..kwazii do you have a crew that you sale with?" I questioned, "no, I've always been kind of a loner, why do you ask?" He inquired, "well..I could use a first mate" I explained, "really?" Kwazii asked as his face lit up, I nodded in response and kwazii jumped up from his seat and back flipped on the spot in excitement "aye aye captain" he exclaimed giving me a salute, I couldn't help but chuckle at his excitement "are you sure about this captain?" Professor inkling asked, "why wouldn't I be" I remarked in a confident voice as I placed my paws on my waist and held my head up in my usual valeant stance, I have a feeling Kwazii's going to be a good addition to the crew

(End of flashback)

(Nora's pov)
"So that's how you become an octonaut?" Saber questioned walking up to her high energy father, "aye matey, the captain and I have been best friends ever since, yaar" kwazii said with a laugh, he's right about that, him and barnacles are quite close friends, I don't think I've ever seen two different species get along so well but then again none of the octonauts confirm to what is considered "normal" for their species
