It was the last Monday before we broke up for Christmas. Now, we were getting set less home work, large Christmas tree found it's usual place in the great Hall and everyone was just a bit more cheerful. Except Sirius of course. We hadn't spoken since our encounter in the common room.

I was sat with Reg in the library, we didn't need those study sessions as an excuse to hang out anymore thank God, I really didn't like potions. "Will I hear from you over Christmas?" I asked him, I was sat on the wooden desk swinging my legs a little childishly as he leaned back comfortably in a chair.

"Depends how many owls I can get out in secret. Sirius is better at that sort of thing though." He shrugged, sometimes his mother was harsh and sometimes she was pure evil, depending on how much Sirius Dishonoured the Black name.

"I'd sneak out to come and see you." I offered "I know how to use muggle transport... I think." He laughed a little at that.

"It all depends on if Sirius is planning on going easy this year and judging by what's already happened he won't be. Believe me as much as I would love to see you." He kissed my head.

"Well while I still have you, let's go ice skating." I smiled. James and I used to ice skate on the lake by our house when it froze over. When James wasn't on a broom, he had the grace and decorum of a hyper dog but he tried his best anyway because he knew I liked it, that was the sort of brother he was.

"Ice skating?" He smiled "yeah sure I haven't done that in ages." His friends didn't seem like the ice skating type of guys really.

Reg took my hand and just as we were leaving the library, we bumped into Mary and Marlene.

Mary smirked knowingly looking at Regulus and I. "You must be Regulus." She grinned studying him with borderline judgment. Of course she always knew who he was. "Remember that time you knocked my bag off my back in third year and my books went everywhere just because of my parents? I do." She smiled sweetly.

"Yeah sorry about that." He said awkwardly.

"Looks aren't everything I suppose." She chuckled looking at him. I was completely shocked, Mary was just being mean on purpose. "You better treat y/n right."

He sort of smiled awkwardly, Mary was a muggle born talking to him like that he probably wasn't used to that but didn't want to say anything. "Nice to meet you." He said politely.

"I'm Mary, this is Marlene."

"You see a lot of our friends have their reservations but I don't. I know you won't hurt y/n because I'm a beater and you're a chaser." Marlene smiled sweetly as if she wasn't threatening to knock him off his broom.

"Oh- uh you don't need to worry about that-" He began.

"And always remember I got there first." Marlene smirked "have fun y/n, love ya!" She giggled with Mary as they walked further into the library.

"They're.... Protective." I told him trying to find the word. "Mary's got a heart of gold I promise. She's only putting on the mean face."

"Looks aren't everything." He scoffed, clearly refraining from insulting my friends. "But yeah I'm sure she's great, love."

"You don't mind being seen in the corridors with me?" I asked and looked up at him, I knew how some Slytherin's would write home to his family if they caught him then there would be trouble.

"I have the whole of Christmas to pretend I don't know you, today won't hurt." He shrugged "Although maybe Barty, Sev and Mulciber are best avoided."

"Don't worry I know a short cut." I lead him through some quieter corridors through the castle to the lake. Thanks to the map, I knew all the secret passages.

We came out at the lake, a quieter spot too. "Do you have ice skates?" I asked him while waving my wand in the action charm to summon my pair.

"Yeah I think so, I haven't been ice skating since I was like 11." He summoned his ice skates then had to make them grow to fit him "I'm going to be out of practice."

"Aww want me to hold your hands Edgy Reggie?" I teased him and put mine on, I glided on the ice rather well if I say so myself. I even managed a couple turns. Reg soon joined me, looking a little more unstable.

"Shut up." Reg laughed. He wasn't that bad once he got comfortable, we raced each other up and down the lake, I tried to teach him how to do pirouettes and he managed one before falling, except me tried to grab onto my hand for support and pulled me down with him.

He fell back and I landed on top of him. "What did you drag me down for?" I laughed and rolled off him. I laid next to him and propped myself up on my elbow.

"I didn't mean to!" He chuckled and blushed a little, looking over at him now I realized how much I would miss him. "What?"

"I'm gonna miss you that's all." I shrugged, now I was blushing too. He put his hand on the back of my neck and pulled me into a soft kiss.

"I'll miss you too stupid." He grinned and kissed my head. "I'll write to you if I can."

"I wouldn't want to send you a letter then your mum to see and wonder why I'm writing to you." I wondered if Sirius would tell her, I hoped not. That wasn't like him. Although he had already made it clear he had no intention of being my friend again.

"Something bothering you?" Reg asked me, he looked down at me like I was the most precious thing in the world to him.

"Sirius. I tried to fix things with him and I told him I wouldn't choose, then he told me he didn't care because I had pretty much betrayed him." I sighed, I honestly needed to cry. Sirius was one of my best friends now he hated me. I loved him, not in the way I loved Regulus but the way I loved James. And he hated me.

"I'll try and be good to him over Christmas so it seems less bad if that helps." Reg offered "I sort of got you into this mess I can at least try to ease it off."

"That's okay you don't need to go to any special effort. Can I have a hug though." I blushed, god I felt pathetic but I needed to be held.

"Of course darling." Reg wrapped his arms around me and held me close to him, that was nice. I just felt safe like this. "My girl." He mumbled and kissed my cheek and a little down my neck. His girl. Damn right.

I wished we were different people, people who could be together without a ton of people hating it. That we could be together with out putting Reg in danger from his own mother. But we weren't. And we had to suck it up.
