Gryffindor could not win the Quidditch cup without throwing a huge party to celebrate. We used our biggest expansion charm on the common room to fit everyone in. The music was loud and everyone was happy yet I could not keep a lid on the sadness that sat in my stomach. Knowing that it was all coming to an end was hard. Despite the detentions and the corridor fights, I loved Hogwarts. Nothing could last forever but if offered one more year with things staying exactly the same, I would snatch it in a heartbeat. Times change, children get older, that was life. If only the road ahead weren't so unsure.

Not wanting to dampen the mood, I walked out of the room hoping no one would notice. Luckily no one seemed too. The boys were too busy hoisting James on their shoulders and singing We Are The Champions. I walked out into the courtyard in my red silk party dress, the evening was warm and smelled like summer.

"Are you not in the partying mood?" I turned around to see Mary stood behind me in a red top with flared sleeves and big bell bottoms looking very Stevie Nicks inspired. She smiled sympathetically and sat on the stone bench beside me.

"I don't know." I shrugged. "I guess I'm struggling with the fact that it's our last few days. It sounds silly but I sort of wish that things could just stay the same."

Mary nodded and held my hand. "I know." She said quietly. "Doesn't feel like so long ago that we met on the train do you remember? I was sat all alone, I didn't know a soul. I was so nervous, going to a strange place to do magic." She chuckled, smiling fondly "You came along with James and Pete, I think you guys were looking for the trolley and you saw that I was alone and offered for me to join you in your carriage."

"I'm glad I did." I smiled. "You didn't seem nervous, I was always jealous of how you could be stood by yourself and yet look so sure of yourself." All my life I'd had James at my hip. I'd never eaten a meal alone. I was scared of being alone one day, I needed my friends around me."

"Oh I really wasn't." Mary laughed, I was good at pretending until I didn't need to pretend anymore. "Or what about second year when Sirius tried to introduce Reg, that was funny."

I laughed a little. "He was such a moody little boy. Way shorter than Sirius back than, scowling at all of us. Oh- do you remember when Lily tried to teach James to roller skate in third year? He spun around and fell flat on his face. God he was so embarrassed he was ranting about it all evening about how his chances were ruined!"

She laughed and put her head on my shoulder. "We've grown up so much."

"We have." I sighed and leaned into her. "Our kids have to be best friends I don't care if they like it or not. They must."

Mary chuckled and there was comfortable silence for a moment until she spoke up. "Don't fight in the war Y/N."

"What?" I frowned.

"Please just don't. Let the adults do it. We're so young and what we're going up against... I don't think you guys realise how serious it is." She pleaded.

"How can I not? First off if they win, you'll be killed. So will Lily. It's not about playing soldiers it's about protecting those we care about. Trust me it isn't my dream to go and do this but don't you see? I have to." I sighed.

"I want no part in it." Mary shook her head. "I'm grateful for everything Hogwarts have given me but I think I'll get a muggle job and avoid the wizarding world for a while. That's the only good thing about being muggleborn I suppose."

"If that's what you want then do that. I won't give you a hard time for not fighting but I also can't see any other option for myself." I told her. "I should find Reg, go get back to the party I'm sure Marls is looking for you." I said with a small smile. We stood up and gave each other a tight hug.

"Go get your man." She grinned and I laughed before walking to the room of requirement. He spent most nights there out of hatred for his room mates.

As I walked in, he was sat on the sofa by the crackling fire drawing and I hugged him from behind. "Hey."

He smiled and turned around "Shouldn't you be celebrating your victory?" He asked me and I sat next to him.

"I did a bit." I shrugged gesturing to the dress. "I had better ideas of how to celebrate though..."

"Oh yeah?" Reg smirked and I cuddled up to him,. It was still funny to me. Y/N Potter turning down a Gryffindor party to see her Slytherin boyfriend. "I'm so proud of you." He told me stroking my hair. "Especially when you nearly knocked that kid off his broom."

"He's on your team and you don't even know his name?" I chuckled.

"Of course not." Reg shook his head and I laughed.

"So arrogant!" I teased with a fond smile.

He smirked and put his hand on the side of my face, his fingers finding their way below my jawline, his thumb running along my cheekbone as he gazed into my eyes. "Of course I'm arrogant." He said simply as his hand went down to the side of my neck, he could probably feel my quickening pulse as I held his gaze "I get to call you mine." He leaned down and met my lips with a deep kiss. I practically melted under his touch as I returned his passion, climbing into his lap. One hand snaked it's way around my throat as the other squeezed my thigh. "Now..." he smirked as he pulled away, I could tell he was already undressing me with his eyes and it excited me. "How about that reward?"

.・✫・゜・。..・✫・゜・。.

We lay beside each other, staring at the ceiling with laboured breaths. "That was amazing." I sighed happily and ran a hand through my h/c hair. He nodded with a smile and pulled me into his arms. I smiled as he traced his fingers across my back, feeling his warm skin on mine.

"I love you y/n." He told me and placed a loving kiss on my head.

"I love you." I smiled. We sat in blissful, contented silence for a moment until Reg spoke up.

"I'll miss you..." he said quietly.

I looked up at my future to see a sad smile on his face. Knowing I'd be leaving him behind made leaving harder than ever. "I'll miss you more." I told him. "I hate thinking about it."

"Where will you go?" He asked me.

"I think I'll stay at Potter House for a while." I shrugged. "These past years I haven't spent much time with my parents. I think James will too. You can come whenever you want... whenever you can."

He smiled a little and nodded, a smile that shielded a whole world of sadness. "I'll definitely try, do they know?"

"I haven't told them." I shook my head, looking down at the ring on my finger. "I'm not sure what they'll say... it's the kind of news that's best not done by letter."

He nodded, letting out a nervous sigh "I hope they don't freak out."

"They won't. Atleast... I don't think they will." The truth was I had no idea, they never normally freaked out at anything but this was quite a big deal. I felt my eyes grow heavy as I snuggled into Reg, trying to avoid thinking about what tomorrow would bring.

"Get some rest my love." He whispered and kissed my head and I fell into a deep sleep.
