The rest of November was spent getting to occasional fights with Regulus's friends, defending people from their hexes and then spending time in detention because of fights and pranks. Sirius had the record of most detentions in a decade, a title he held proudly.

"You staying at ours for Christmas then Moony?" I smiled over at Remus one day after classes, we were sat on our usual spots in the common room.

Remus shrugged "If that's alright with your parents." He smiled bashfully. Everyone loved a Christmas with my family, the best ones were when both Remus and Sirius could come we had all five of us.

"Shush you know my parents adore you, they'd be disappointed if you didn't come! Sirius? You're down aren't you?" James looked over at Sirius who was brushing through his dark locks, Sirius really took his hair and made it a personality trait. He had 7 hair brushes out on his dresser in the boys dorm all apparently were good for different things. I took no comments about girls taking forever to get ready when I was friends with Sirius Black.

"Dunno if I'll be able to mate, depends how much the family have given up on me." He chuckled but I knew he dreaded going home. It broke my heart seeing the fear he tried to hide every time the train stopped at platform 9 ¾. He called his family 'the family' instead of 'my family' I noticed that one as well. I wished my mum could just adopt him.

"Well let's hope the magazines you stuck in your room did the trick." I laughed. Last Summer, Sirius had used a permanent sticking charm to put magazine's of naked women up on his walls just to annoy his parents.

Sirius laughed and sat sideways on the couch crossing his legs over Remus's lap. "Hope so, I always mention my dear friends at the dinner table. Specially Mary and Evans, my mother goes bright red it's hilarious. Then I tell her how I'm friends with Potter's and two half bloods. She doesn't mind you wormtail."

I sighed exasperated "Okay why do you keep calling Peter wormtail? I know he had that weird little braid in third year but-"

"Hey don't insult my trim I was 14!" Peter complained which made us all laugh a little.

"My point is, why do you keep calling him that. It's not exactly very flattering. Poor Pete."

Sirius just smirked "One day you'll know things and it will all make sense."

"You guys really aren't half as mysterious as you think you are." I rolled my eyes.

One strange Saturday morning, I was sitting at my spot under the tree by the lake having a cigarette. Once again, not a bad habit but something I had every now and then, anyway a black shaggy looking dog walked up to me. Everyone had been talking about the dog seen walking around the grounds, we all just assumed it was maybe someone's from Hogsmede that had found it's way up here. "Oh hello there." I smiled over at the dog. I liked animals, they were much more easy going than people. Less complicated.

The dog walked over to me and rested his head in my lap. I smiled and scratched just behind his ears. "You look awfully hungry don't you, I don't have much I'm afraid but I hope a sandwich will do." I pulled a chicken and stuffing sandwich out of my school bag and took the bread off the top, holding it out to the dog who munched on it happily. "There you are. Are you lost? Not like you can answer that" I chuckled, I had a theory that animals could understand what you said they were clever creatures.

I checked around his neck for a collar, there wasn't one. "Well now I'm not sure how I'm supposed to know your name." He still was sat next to me, letting me pet him. "Mystery dog aren't you? Almost like this place is sending me people to meet when I sit here, or indeed animals. First my boyfriend and now you." I chuckled. At the word boyfriend, it must have been my imagination but the dog looked confused and cocked it's head. Maybe I was going crazy?

"Everyone thinks he's bad but he's actually amazing, he pranked the boy who kept being a dick to my friends and I yesterday. Thing is he's not allowed to be good but I know he is deep down. He is when no ones looking, more than good in fact." I didn't know why I was telling all this to a dog. A literal dog. But I needed someone to tell and apparently my friends weren't an option. A month had passed and I kept the secret, what harm could a dog do?

The dog placed his head on my lap and looked up at me with proper puppy dog eyes, almost asking me to carry on. "He's called Regulus." I smiled just thinking about him. "We've been together almost a month now in secret." The dog seemed to choke on the chicken he had swallowed almost 5 minutes ago. Was he alright? There wasn't exactly a vet to call. He luckily composed himself and sat facing me, ears pricked up.

"Well someone doesn't approve." I chuckled once he was okay "Wouldn't be the first person, trust me. There's a reason it needs to be secret but I wish everyone could see the side to him that I see then it would be alright." If dogs could frown, then that one did. He barked in my face and ran off after a stag he saw. A stag who seemed to have a rat on its antlers, how strange.
