As October came around, brining golden brown leaves and crisp chilly mornings where the fog hung over the fields on the school grounds and dew drops that glistened on the grass with it, everyone was getting excited for Halloween. James planned on hosting a party, I got the feeling there would be a lot this year. Our last ever Halloween at Hogwarts after all.
Remus and I were coming back from a herbology lesson, our black leather school shoes crunching satisfyingly on the orange leaves. I had a Gryffindor scarf around my neck in an attempt to fend off the morning chill.
Our conversation was interrupted by Chris running up to us. "Remus! Y/n!" He ran up to us, the younger boy was red in the face and panting, eyes wide with urgency.
"What the matter?" Remus asked with a frown, he towered over Chris.
"James got into a fight." He panted and put his hands on his knees to catch his breath.
"With who!?" My eyes widened in concern "I swear to God if it was Snivellu-"
"Regulus Black." He looked at me, as if he was scared of my reaction.
I fell silent for a moment as my stomach dropped.
"Are you sure Chris?" Remus asked him taking a look at the expression on my face.
"Positive." Chris nodded.
"Why would Reg fight James?" I asked quietly, thinking aloud. After my parents took him under their roof like he was family after meeting him once he goes and punches my brother? He knew how much my family meant to me, did he have no respect? If this was true, I could not allow it.
"I don't know! But James is in the common room now with the others." Chris shrugged.
"Thanks." Remus said giving him a quick nod and we rushed off to the common room. "Are you alright y/n?" He asked, speedily walking. I had to jog to match his pace.
"Fine." I huffed, walking up the moving staircases and we burst into the common room. James was sat on the sofa with bruised knuckles while Lily scolded him for getting into a fight but Sirius was sat next to him like a guard dog. "What the hell happened!?"
They all looked up when they saw me come in and Pete's eyes widened as if he knew it was about to go down. "Prefect meeting, a couple of Slytherins had something to say about Lily being head girl. Regulus included. Barty fired a hex so I hit him then Reg took over." James explained examining his broken glasses. Lily took them out of his hands and used a repairing charm.
"Are you alright?" I asked my brother and he nodded. At least James didn't appear to be too physically wounded. I wondered what Reg looked like, then I wondered if I should even care.
"You shouldn't have resulted to violence Potter. Stupid idiot." Lily sighed and put her head on his shoulder.
"I didn't think he was like that... " I sat down in an arm chair trying not to feel hurt that he would go and do that.
"Maybe you only see what he let's you see. He's a dick y/n you were going to realize it sooner or later." Sirius shrugged.
"I need to find him." I stood up.
"Y/n maybe wait for things to calm down." Lily suggested "we don't want more drama."
"No I need to talk to him right now." I walked out of the common room, storming through the stone corridors.
Reg was in the courtyard joking around with Barty. As soon as he saw me he stopped laughing and the idiotic grin was wiped off his face.
"Regulus Black would you like to fucking explain yourself?" I stood in front of them with my arms crossed.
"Ooooh." Barty teased making his voice all high pitched and laughed.
