Mary, Mary, where you going to?
Mary, Mary, can I come too?
This one thing I will vow ya,
I'd rather die than live without ya.
Mary Mary, where ya going to?

"Were you with Charlotte?" Mary asked casually as I walked into our dorm, she was on her bed studying for our N.E.W.T.S, Lily and Y/n were out not sure where but I had just come back from the Hufflepuff common room, still a little bit faded. I felt it in my eyes and I had just eaten an entire pizza to myself. Good day.

"Yes I was." I nodded and looked over at Mary, she was beautiful. Everyone thought so, everyone chose her and I couldn't blame them because I did too. "And y/n. We were having a cheeky spliff. Her mate Freddie gave us some. He has a proper soft spot for her." I chuckled, I didn't see Y/n's newfound party spirit a problem. She always bought me a long which meant I could keep her safe and it was good fun, I knew she had broken her own heart so she deserved to heal. Some of our friends such as James, Lily, Peter and Remus voiced their concern with how she was acting lately but I saw how hard it had hit her, she loved Regulus anyone could see it. It was unfortunate because we all knew they couldn't be together but no one had the heart to tell her. I was happy she was trying to move on.

"I'm jealous not gonna lie." Mary laughed, she was being so casual but it annoyed me. Mary had so many different boys she had trouble making sure they didn't all bump into each other and as soon as I have my fun she gets jealous.

"Mary you're being unfair." I said quietly, I loved her for years but I had only recently realized how I was in love with her. Her smile, how she laughed, the way she gave you a cuddle just because. I loved her.

Mary looked confused, her dark brow furrowed like she was trying to figure out what I meant and by the way she was pouting a little it clearly wasn't working. "What do you mean Marls?"

"I'm not going to be here for you to kiss whenever you want and be one of your many side-shags and have eyes for no one else. It's almost like you want me to be totally committed to you without committing yourself." I said calmly. We kissed a lot, a lot of people thought we were together anyway. We had joked about dating a lot but it was less of a joke now. I was too scared to say anything because I didn't want to ruin the friendship we had.

She was silent after that, I was right and she didn't know how to respond. "Anyway, what are you studying?" I asked and sat down next to her, putting my chin on her shoulder. She had always been affectionate but it got different over the last year. The hugs when we were 14 were not the same as when she climbed in to my bed at night to cuddle. I wished she would stop playing these games.

"Charms." Mary said and leaned against me. "But I'm tired I don't fancy doing it anymore."

"You need to study though." I said softly. "I'll help you."

She smiled and nodded at my suggestion. "Alright." I went through testing her and we ended up sat on her bed having a chat because we couldn't stay on topic.

"Next time you go out, bring me." Mary smiled. "We should be looking after Y/n not helping her go off the rails." She chuckled.

"You sound like Lily." I laughed. "I am, I mean come on Regulus Black. She deserves a rest after all that."

"He seemed a nice boy at the concert, I think they're still in love." Mary shrugged.

"Oh she's clearly hooking up with everyone as a distraction but still. Their time has been and gone I think. It's unfortunate." I felt bad for Y/n, her and Reg looked so happy together and I knew she really wasn't doing okay with the break up.
At night, I heard her sniffing as she tried to hold back tears and then the curtain of a silencing charm being cast around her bed.
It seemed James and Lily were the only ones to have it easy.
