Girl!Florida's name comes from Bitchyass_tacos

IDC poked at her salad, mind reeling.

"These grits suck." Georgia muttered across from her.

"It's a generic restaurant, of course they're gonna suck." IDC muttered.

"I can make 'em better." Georgia added, scooping some grits on his spoon and turning to his boyfriend. "Try 'em."

"Geo I believe you!" Kentucky argued.

"No, I need validation." Georgia ordered. Kentucky rolled his eyes and let Georgia feed him the grits. IDC snickered as his face turned sour.

"You're right they're gross." Kentucky gagged. IDC sighed and sat back in her seat as Kentucky took a long sip of his water.

"So....I have news." IDC announced, not looking up but knowing she got her dad's attention. She twisted her fork around in some of the lettuce. "I....I may be seeing someone...."

"Well alright! I'm glad peach pie!" Georgia said with a bright smile.

"Is he nice, does he treat you right? I can come down in a second if he doesn't sugar." Kentucky pointed out. IDC sighed, and let the questions hang in silence.

"Right, he doesn't, where is he?" Kentucky asked, getting ready to jump up.

"Tucky, stop." Georgia ordered pulling his boyfriend down. "Let Izzy tell us." IDC sighed and continued to twist her fork, the lettuce now slightly shredded.

"It's not that....I'm not being treated well..." IDC began, the lump in her throat growing. She continued not to meet her dad's eyes but she knew Georgia had a worried look on his face and Kentucky was ready for murder.

"It's just....I'm...I'm not dating....a man..." IDC said, every breath in her body leaving at that exact moment. The lettuce was now in small pieces.

"Oh. Oh is that all?" Georgia asked. "Are you datin' someone whose...."

"Non...non battery?" Kentucky asked.

"Nonbinary, papa." IDC corrected, smiling a little but heart still thundering. "And no...I'm dating a woman."

"Baby that's it? You didn't have to be nervous tellin' us now." Georgia pointed out taking his daughter's hand. IDC"s head snapped up.

"Wha-"

"In case you haven't noticed, Izzy." Kentucky teased stealing some bacon from Georgia's plate. "You were raised by two men."

"B-But I'm not...I'm supposed to have a husband! The white picket fence, the kids, the perfect life!" IDC pointed out.

"Now peach pie you can still have that." Georgia pointed out, eating some of the grits again and gagging. "It doesn't matter who you're dating', you can still have that life."

"Stop eating them if they're so bad!" IDC ordered, whacking her dad's hand playfully.

"It's a crime to get rid of grits!" Georgia argued, making IDC giggle.

"And you and papa have been together for decades and y'all aren't married." IDC pointed out as Kentucky looped an arm around Georgia's shoulders.

"That's more of a young people's game baby, you know that." Kentucky said with a shrug, stealing another piece of bacon. IDC sighed but smiled, feeling the warmth in her chest growing.

"Thanks guys, this....this means a lot." IDC said softly.

"Have you told your brother?" Georgia asked, going for more grits.

"No I-stop that-no. I figured if I buy him enough sweets I can distract him enough." IDC said with a shrug.

"Also you still haven't told us this young lady's name." Kentucky pointed out with a smirk, making IDC giggle.

"Her name is Angie, she's so pretty. We actually met last time I went down to Orlando for Easter." IDC announced before sitting up in her chair. "Actually, she's Florida, but the girl version." Silence fell.

"She's a state?" Georgia asked.

"Yeah, Florida but a girl." IDC explained as Kentucky choked on his water.

"Well alright, that's a nice fit for you." Georgia said with a smile, turning at the sound of a lighter flicking. Kentucky lit up his cigarette and blew out smoke, leaning his head against the booth's cushion.

"Papa, there's no smoking in here." IDC hissed.

"We're going to have two Florida-in-laws." Kentucky muttered, scratching his forehead. "This is going to drive me to drink."

"Oh....does that mean...."

"Baby I support you in every way." Kentucky quickly interjected, giving his daughter his no-nonsense look that showed he meant it. "Just let papa mourn the quiet." IDC laughed and took her dad's free hand as Georgia gagged over the grits again. When would he learn that their family was never normal to begin with?
