The first time the main five noticed it, it was two days after DC's breakdown.

Gov called a meeting to discuss what was going to happen moving forward; he'd explained that as a family they came to the conclusion that DC's mental and physical health came first and work came last. Gov would be running the meetings for the time being and DC's workload was lightened significantly. DC "against my objections" was going to recover from the Statehouse since it was better for him to be surrounded by ones that he loved.

The main five's (who had heard this a day ago so none of this was new information) eyes wandered throughout the duration of Gov's speech to watch the different reactions of the states. Most of the states were worried; they caught New Mexico mumbling something in Spanish under his breath (Texas would later confirm it was 'the poor thing'), Utah was uttering a quiet prayer, and most had similar or different reactions. The most surprising was Wyoming.

Quiet, grumpy Wyoming who didn't like talking to others and kept to himself, looked downright scared and worried. He twisted his fingers as Gov went on, bit his lip and tried to maintain some semblance of calm. The main five noted that when the meeting was over, and Idaho tried to ask his fellow Western state if he was okay, Wyoming curtly said 'Leave me alone I'm fine' and then stormed off, spending most of his day in his room.

Maybe Wyoming was just as worried as the rest of them.

DC came home a day later with a strict eating schedule, new meds, and had to be more focused on recovery than work. A lot of the steps beyond the main five and the dads stepepd up to help with DC; Maryland became a stickler for when DC was to take his meds, popping up at insignificant times demanding if he'd taken his pills. Utah apparently heard 'strict eating schedule' and decided that meant casseroles; after every weekend he'd come home with a new one to keep in the fridge, and during DC's scheduled snack time would pull it out.

(Thankfully Illythia was starting to get him to calm down on this.)

But Wyoming, Wyoming really stepped up beyond his fellow states. He was always ready to go with water, a snack, his meds, a book, or just to give him company. Louisiana and Florida couldn't even count the amount of times they came home from their daily chaos adventures and found Wyoming sitting next to DC either watching a show while DC napped, or just talking to him. The gruff and grumpy state was soft and gentle with the fed, calming him when he didn't want to take his meds or eat, giving him blankets, and always trying to make him smile.

Which made California present the question to the others; did Wyoming like DC?

"You've finally noticed that huh?" Texas teased at supper with the rest of the main five, save for New York who was eating with DC.

"He's liked him for awhile Cali." Florida added and California rolled his eyes.

"Okay, so what do we do?" California asked.

"Like what you always say, we gotta let this happen oregano!" Florida said proudly.

"Organically sha, it should happen organically." Louisiana chuckled, patting his boyfriend.

"Rosie's just getting used to polyamory, he's going to be scared." California pointed out.

"Right now we need to focus on his recovery, if he and Wyoming happens, it happens." Texas said with a shrug. California sighed and stirred his food, still worried about DC's anxiety about loving another person.
