When I wrote this I didn't realize how similar to Ohio's story it was? But then I rewatched and wanted DC and Wyoming to watch the fireworks so it esculated from there.
Wyoming walked out of his house holding a blanket and some ice cream.
"Are you sure about this Cee?" Wyoming asked gently to the figure on the front porch, who turned around to face him.
"Course I am Wyo, I can do this." DC whispered as his boyfriend sat next to him. Wyoming swallowed hard and put the blanket on both their laps. He was very proud of himself for sneaking DC out of any boring Fourth of July celebrations he might have had to suffer back in Washington, DC. The two had a fun day together seeing the parade and going to the fair, Wyoming nearly killed a carnie when he couldn't win DC a prize, but as night approached and DC became adamant about seeing the fireworks, the fear crept into his stomach. He knew his boyfriend was sensitive to loud noises, fireworks included, but for some reason the fed was insistent on seeing the show tonight which worried Wyoming to no end.
"Are you sure? We can go inside." Wyoming pointed out handing DC his ice cream.
"Wyo please, I can take it. I'm a big guy." DC said proudly with a smile. Wyoming sighed and softly kissed DC's lips, unable to resist his cute smile. DC broke the kiss at the first shot and turned to the sky just as it exploded with color.
"Wyo look!" DC gasped pointing at the firework as it showed over his ranch. For an instant Wyoming felt calm as he looked back at DC's face, taking in the delight and childish glee he showed. Maybe this could be alright, maybe DC had conquered his fear of loud noises. The firework show continued without much problem, Wyoming was happy to talk to DC about each one popping up as the fed got more and more excited. His mind soon shifted to worry over his animals, hoping they fared much better back in their stalls with the loud noises all around. Around the midpoint of the show as fireworks started going up at once, DC's look went from delighted to concerned.
"What are they doing?" DC asked and it hit Wyoming that he probably hadn't ever stuck around this long for a firework show.
"It's the halfway point." Wyoming explained nudging closer to DC. DC mumbled an 'oh' and looked back at the show as three fireworks went off at once. The childish glee and wonder from his face was gone, and had now been replaced with worry. Wyoming cursed slightly and prayed they'd go back to single shots soon, because it didn't look like DC could stand much more.
An idea hit him faster than a truck and Wyoming jumped up.
"Wyo?" DC whispered looking up at his boyfriend.
"I'll be right back." Wyoming announced dashing back into the house. He ran into his bedroom and grabbed DC's overnight bag, digging into the side pocket and pulling out the noise cancelling headphones he bought DC when they first started dating. When he came back out to the porch, DC had his hands over his ears, and was seemingly frozen into place as the fireworks went off above him.
"Cee, Cee." Wyoming whispered gently, nudging DC. DC looked up at him with watery eyes as the western state held out his headphones.
"Put 'em in." Wyoming suggested and DC quickly obliged, grabbing the headphones from his boyfriend and sticking them in his ears.
Silence.
"That good?" Wyoming mouthed, knowing DC knew how to read lips. The distressed look on DC's face was replaced with a bright smile as he gave his boyfriend a thumbs up. Wyoming grinned and sat back down, bringing DC close next to him as they cuddled watching the fireworks light up the night sky.
