"Is DC autistic?"

Georgia and Kentucky spun around and faced New York, leaning against the fridge and looking at them curiously.

"No....no he's not in Austin. He's in Washington today." Georgia pointed out. New York groaned.

"Not Austin." New York said with a sigh. "Autistic. Like does he have autism?"

"A astigmatism? The hell he'd have that?" Kentucky asked and New York face palmed.

"Not astigmatism! Is he--" New York quickly grabbed California as he entered the kitchen. "Please help me."

"What's going on?" California asked.

"I'm trying to ask if DC's autistic and these two have no idea what I mean." New York hissed.

"I don't think he's an elastic, he does seem to recover quickly though." Georgia muttered. New York groaned and California patted his boyfriend on the shoulder.

"What New York is asking is if DC was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder." And New York notes that as soon as the words 'diagnosed' and 'disorder' leave California's mouth, Kentucky's face falls into a dark expression and Georgia tugs his jacket closer to himself.

"Actually in the past it had many different names, I remember reading on the internet once...."

"No." California paused and noticed the expressions on Georgia and Kentucky's faces.

"Ya sure? Because I'm autistic myself and I see a lot of my behaviors in him." New York explained before jumping at the sound of a hand slapping the table.

"HE'S NOT." Kentucky yelled. "He's not autistic, he's fine."

"We're not saying he's not fine Kentucky, but maybe if he got diagnosed it'll help him on his bad days." California added.

"We're telling you, he's not." Georgia hissed, grabbing Kentucky's arm. "Drop it." The two dads walked out of the kitchen in a half leaving the two boyfriends alone. New York and California looked at one another before sighing.

Well at least they tried.

In the next two days, DC shuts down, overwhelmed with paperwork and the drama occurring with the states. New York helped him as always making sure he got food and water, calmed him down and helped him when he was non-verbal, the conversation with his dads at the forefront of his mind.

Surely this happened when DC was younger, surely DC went into meltdowns and shutdowns, stimmed, how could they not see that their son possibly was autistic?

New York cornered IDC at one of the weekly family dinners to press the issue further, not using the word 'disorder' or 'autistic' in fear of another incident like a few days ago, and instead asked if DC melted down or stimmed when he was younger.

"Oh yeah all the time." IDC said with a shrug. "Papa used to make him these toys that he could spin or flick, that calmed him down and when he'd shut down I remember dad telling me to let him be and would be one to comfort him." New York felt his insides boil with anger as IDC went on.

They knew.

They knew DC had something wrong but did jack all to help him. He could understand it from his own father, who used his fists to fix him, but Kentucky and Georgia were good parents, why the hell would they deny DC the help he desperately needed?

He brought this up to his boyfriends a few days later, letting all his anger and frustration out. How dare they? How dare they not help DC and hide his disorder away, when they could've helped him?
