A/N: Something I'm exploring, what if Gov was the only one what DC was going through with Orange and when DC had his mental break, Gov was trying to keep it secret from everyone

Florida yawned and trudged out of his room at the Statehouse looking for a cup of coffee and maybe some alcohol. After a wild couple of days, with the Capitol riots and a certain president getting banned from Twitter, most of the states just wanted this year to end, and they were only a few weeks in. Florida made his way into the kitchen where some states were already up and grabbed a mug from the cabinet.
"I don't think I slept." California muttered, rubbing his face.
"I haven't been sleeping." New York added, suppressing a yawn. Florida put the mug in the coffee maker and turned back to the other states and his boyfriends.
"Anyone hear from Dee?" Florida asked softly. As much as they hated it, DC had to go back to Washington to try and contain the fire from the sixth. He was clearly mentally shaken, and not well, but he had a job to do and promised to relax as soon as Biden got inaugurated.
"Not yet, but Georgia said he'd try and call him." California said poking at his granola. Florida nodded and took his mug out of the machine, black coffee just like DC drank, and trudged out of the kitchen into the living room. Some more states were gathered around the TV, watching highlights from some game from the other night, either mumbling to themselves or quietly watching. Florida sat next to Louisiana and was about to drink his coffee, when the front door opened.
"Morning everyone." Gov greeted, closing the door behind him. He looked out at the confused faces of the other states, tilting his head.
"What? You know we have a meeting, right?" Gov asked. Of course the states knew, every week it was written on the calendar in big bold letters with lines underneath for emphasis by DC, but why was Gov here?
"What are you doing here?" Massachusetts asked.
"DC was momentarily disposed of." Gov explained adjusting his tie. "So he asked me to run the meeting." The states all looked at each other as Gov moved to the backroom to prepare for the meeting.
"Did....did he text any of you that he wasn't running the meeting?" Pennsylvania asked and Louisiana and Florida shook their heads. It was a red flag that no one from the main five got a text from their boyfriend that he was going to miss the meeting, but maybe he texted Georgia and Kentucky and they just forgot to say something. Florida adjusted himself so he could pull his phone out of his pocket and sent off a quick text message to DC.
Dia: Sicing your cousin on us? That's low Dee.

The states gathered around for the meeting, as per, with an air of uneasiness with Gov being at the head of the table rather than DC. The states didn't like when Gov ran the meetings since he tended to run it by the book as opposed to letting the chaos reign like DC did. At least IDC eventually gave up and let them run the meeting, Gov actually wanted order.
Gov put his phone down and sat up straight in his chair. "Morning everyone..."
"Where's Dee?" Florida demanded. Gov groaned.
"I told you Florida, he was disposed of and needed me to run the meeting." Gov said with a sigh.
"Sugar always tells us when he's gonna miss a meeting." Texas pointed out and Gov facepalmed again. They heard him muttering under his breath 'of course he has a system'.
"Look. Maybe he forgot." Gov said. "Either way, I'm running the meeting today, and I need updates." The states began all talking at once, overwhelming Gov and setting off his headache. The only ones who didn't contribute to the chaos were the main five, who remained unsure over Gov's explanation. As Gov tried to contain a fight between Oklahoma and Mississippi, his phone started going off, the fed choosing to answer it instead of just ignoring the call. When he did pick up the phone, there was immediate shouting from the other line.
