Utah jumped as the front door slammed open and shut.
"Kentucky STOP IT." Georgia yelled following his boyfriend as they walked past the kitchen.
"NO. He's EATING if I have to MAKE HIM eat." Kentucky screamed.
"You can't force him, we make him magically start eating!" Georgia pointed out.
"Fucks sake Georgia, what are we going to do? Watch him DIE?"
"HEY." Utah yelled, jumping off the bar stool and approaching the two southern men. "What's going on?"
"Stay out of this Utah." Georgia ordered. "Kentucky..."
"Is this about DC?" Utah asked.
"Fucking HELL Utah what did we just say?" Kentucky screamed.
"First of all, I'm surprised by that language from you." Utah said in horror. Kentucky rolled his eyes, pulled his cigarettes out of his pocket, and lit one. "Second, if this is about DC's eating issues, Georgia's right, you can't force him to just start eating."
"That's what you both think." Kentucky hissed, taking the cigarette out of his mouth and blowing smoke out. "When I get him down to my home state, he'll be eating normally in no time."
"That's not going to fix this!" Georgia cried.
"THEN WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST?" Kentucky screamed tears in his eyes. "HOW DO WE FIX OUR SON?"
"Teaching him it's okay to eat, teaching him how to respond to his body wanting food again, getting him back to his old eating habits from four years ago." Utah pointed out. Kentucky stared at both states before chuckling wetly, shaking his head and looking down to the ground.
"Why didn't they listen?" Kentucky whispered, rubbing his head with his finger. "Why didn't they just fucking listen?"
"Tucky...I know." Georgia whispered, taking his boyfriend into his arms, holding him gently. He looked over at Utah who stared at both states confused.
"We tried telling the people in charge that DC wasn't ready....that he was not prepared to be a fed." Georgia explained as Kentucky left his arms.
"They made him start anyway, 1977. I won't forget that." Kentucky whispered close to tears.
"But nothing could've prepared him for Trump." Utah pointed out gently. "He could've grown up like Gov and still have been subjected to his abuse." The two dads looked at Utah wearily before Kentucky broke away and slipped into the kitchen. He threw open one of the cabinets and pulled out a small bottle, taking down the liquid with a gulp. He panted a little and held the bottle out to Utah who held up his hands.
"None for me." Utah said as nicely as possible as Georgia gently led Kentucky to the kitchen island.
"Four years, Utah." Kentucky whispered, leaning on the island and putting the cigarette back in his mouth. "Four years we had to wat--" He almost couldn't finish his sentence, a choking sob escape him.
"We've had to watch him slowly die for four years, Utah." Georgia explained, finishing for his boyfriend. "You have to understand, we're at a loss."
"I understand, completely I do. You've known him far longer than he's been holding meetings. I can't imagine what it's like, I pray my own children never have to feel like this." Utah explained, heart breaking at the sob that broke from Kentucky.
"But making him do it, isn't going to fix anything, as much as you want it to." Utah pointed out.
"We've failed." Kentucky whimpered. "We've failed as parents."
"Hey, who said you've failed?" Utah demanded.
"D-Did we do something? When he and IDC were kids did we do something wrong?" Kentucky asked, shaking hands shaking.
"It was the war wasn't it. The war made him feel insecure so he....he's channeling it all into this." Georgia whispered.
"Stop it! Stop it you two!" Utah ordered. He grabbed the cigarette from Kentucky before he accidentally dropped it and smashed it before he started a fire.
"Now you listen here, it wasn't anything you two did, it wasn't the war or anything else you might think up. It's not your fault he works for an abusive boss! It's not your fault he's overworked all day and all night! It's not your fault!" Utah hissed. Georgia wiped his eyes and sniffed as Kentucky ran a hand through his hair.
"So what do we do?" Kentucky whispered.
"I think California's right and he needs to be on a treatment plan. Not away." Utah quickly stopped Kentucky's protest. "I fully agree with Texas that we can do this here, but he needs to be put on a plan."
"But he still works that awful job, it'll just cause him to spiral." Georgia pointed out.
"And hopefully that....excuse my potty language, jerk will be voted out." Utah announced. "But for right now, all we can do is hopefully get him back on track with normal eating habits." The three sat in silence, the only sounds coming from the refrigerator and the clock ticking away on the wall. Georgia wiped his eyes as Kentucky sat up again, still crestfallen but more calm now.
"I can still make him those," Utah snickered. "'Ice cream' bowls for now until we set one up."
"He still thinks you're making him straight ice cream huh?" Kentucky teased. Utah smiled, it was nice to hear the southern man joke again.
"From one dad to a couple." Utah said with a big smile. "You two are doing a great job." Georgia took Kentucky's hand in his, Kentucky kissed his hand before Georgia reached out for Utah's. Utah smiled wide and took Georgia's.
"Us dad's gotta stick together." Georgia whispered.
"Dad squad!" Utah announced.
"No we're not calling ourselves that--" Kentucky said quickly but getting cut off again by Utah.
"DAD SQUAD."
