It was so early in the morning that the dew hadn't faded off the grass. In the peach field by a small farm house, a toddler eyed curiously some pretty stones hidden underneath one of the trees, decided then picking up the biggest and smoothest, then turning to a little girl next to him, holding the rock in his palm.

"Rock." DC announced proudly. IDC held out her nightgown, that she was using as a basket and was already filled with rocks, and DC diligently dropped the rock in adding to the pile.

"We need to find more." IDC announced. DC nodded and was about to move onto the next tree when the twins' heads snapped back to the farm house. They thought they heard a yell, but after waiting a few moments only heard a distant bird cawing in the distance or the sound of farm animals waking up. Shrugging, the twins toddled off to the next tree looking for rocks, unbothered, continuing on their mission.

Inside the farm house things were far from peaceful.

"THEY'RE GONE." Georgia screamed as Kentucky tumbled into the bedroom, finding his husband hysterical in front of an empty bed.

"FUCK. Not them. NOT THEM." Kentucky yelled moving past his husband and began searching all around the room, overturning toy bins and stuffed animals, eventually moving onto the bed itself, tipping over the mattress and blankets, moving the frame, but finding no trace of their babies.

"Where could they have gone?" Georgia wailed, unable to move as Kentucky finished his searching, panting hard. Kentucky turned to face his husband, body tense and panting.

"You check our bedroom, I'll go downstairs." Kentucky ordered. Georgia nodded and dashed off, Kentucky close behind, trying not to think of the baby they already lost, the fear gnawing that they lost their new babies as well.

DC plopped another rock in his sister's skirt and smiled happily.

"Daddy happy." DC announced.

"More." IDC suggested to her twins nod. The two toddled off to another tree, pausing again at a clearer voice coming back from their house.

"Papa?" IDC asked as DC turned back around. DC gently took his sister's arm and led her back to the house, moving carefully so none of the rocks would spill from her skirt. Papa was probably so excited to see what they had, he couldn't wait for them to get back!

"DC? IDC? BABIES!" Kentucky yelled outside in the front yard screaming for his children. He looked around frantically, only seeing farm animals and the peach fields, no sign of his children. The state wracked his brain trying to come up with what happened to the twins; they couldn't have been kidnapped, all the doors and windows were locked. He built the bed high enough so they'd be safe but also so they couldn't climb out. The only logical explanation had to be....

No.

No they weren't gone.

Kentucky ran back into the house finding a hysterical Georgia, standing in the middle of the kitchen with all the cabinet doors open and practically all the dishes and pots on the floor.

"TUCKY THEY'RE GONE." Georgia cried.

"No baby no!" Kentucky said immediately, putting Georgia in his arms. There had to be another solution, the babies didn't disappear, they just didn't.

"Tucky I can't live without them!" Georgia continued to cry, burying his face in Kentucky's shirt.

"Listen, listen. I'm going to go gather Maryland and Ohio, okay? We'll find them." Kentucky whispered.

"What if they're gone? What'll we do?" Georgia cried. Kentucky hugged Georgia tight again, trying to get the awful thought out of his mind. He was so busy hugging his husband he didn't feel a tug on his pant leg, and only looked down until the tugging became more forceful.

"Papa!" IDC greeted with a smile, DC already making grabby hands.

"KIDS." Kentucky gasped as Georgia immediately broke the hold.

"Rocks!" IDC announced proudly holding up her nightgown. Georgia wasted no time, he collapsed on his knees and hugged both babies tight, Kentucky following.

"OH MY BABIES. MY TREASURES." Georgia cried.

"Daddy sad?" DC asked, confused. He wanted to show his dad's the rocks they found, why were they crying?

"Daddy happy, sweetie. Daddy happy." Kentucky whispered, crying himself, kissing DC all over his face. The two sat for the longest time on the floor, hugging their children, the twins confused but loving the extra attention, the rocks remaining forgotten.

The twins didn't leave their parents' side for the rest of the day, and Kentucky and Georgia didn't feel like doing any work besides the regular farm chores. Virginia would be pissed they didn't go to the states meeting but they could care less after the scare from that morning. It was evening, and Kentucky and Georgia were cradling one twin each on their couch as each suckled sleepily on some milk. Georgia still looked shell-shocked, but Kentucky kept a strong front, keeping his eyes on IDC who was fighting to stay awake.

"We're not losing them Tucky." Georgia whispered, voice hoarse from that morning and taking the bottle from DC, who was full and content, snuggling against his father.

"I made a promise when Vania died that if we ever got children again I'd never lose them." Kentucky whispered. He smoothed down some of IDC's braids and looked at her as she slowly started to join her twin in dreamland, tiny huffs escaping her body.

"I intend to keep that." Kentucky announced before turning to Georgia.

"Never again." Kentucky whispered, voice heavy with emotion. Georgia nodded at his husband kissed him softly before leaning on his shoulder.

"Never again."
