The warm earling morning light hit Georgia's face as he blinked awake and yawned, snuggling deeper into the mattress to try and catch some extra sleep. He knew deep down he had to get up soon, the day was too busy for sleeping in, today was Latesgiving as he lovingly called it.

Latesgiving was the direct result of everyone moving into the Statehouse last year; the Wright-Hamilton family always had Thanksgiving together, much like Sunday family dinner it was just expected. But when Covid hit, and everyone moved to the Statehouse and started relationships, Thanksgiving was regulated to Florida which meant the family couldn't gather on the day anymore. Georgia still wanted the family to gather, however, so Latesgiving was born. Gov tried getting the southern state to change the name, but he was steadfast and stubborn and so the name stuck.

Georgia smiled into the sunlight and yawned again; there was so much to cook and so much to do, thank the Heavens they cleaned the house last night. He finally gave up on extra sleep and turned his head to his left to face his husband, still asleep and snoring loudly in his ear. He was practically on top of him too, somehow managing to get all the blankets on his side on the floor and clutching onto him like a body pillow. Georgia gave Kentucky a good shove.

"Wake up Tucky, it's Latesgiving." Georgia ordered. Kentucky sputtered and picked his head up, looking around confused.

"Mmph it's too early." Kentucky whined.

"Stop that, the kids'll be here soon and they ain't gonna want us half-dressed." Georgia ordered.

"Why can't we be like normal people and just go shopping on Black Friday?" Kentucky moaned, running a hand through his hair.

"Because tradition is the backbone of any family." Georgia pointed out before kissing his husband gently. "Happy Latesgiving."

"Happy Latesgiving peaches." Kentucky whispered, smiling. "I love you, our family, and your weird holiday names."

"Don't you start that!"

The smell of brewing coffee filled the kitchen as Georgia looked around at the ingredients littered around the countertops. Kentucky was still getting dressed in their bedroom, giving Georgia a little wiggle room to start cooking without his overzealous husband attempting to help. The southern yawned and looked at the clock on his wall; Betsey would be over soon to help, she always came over early for holidays to help prepare, and she was much better help than Kentucky. Georgia grabbed his mug from the cabinet and poured himself a brew, just as a pair of arms slinked around his waist.

"Smells good." Kentucky whispered, nuzzling his face into Georgia's shoulder. Georgia sighed contently; he would never tire of that musky body wash from that weird store at the mall that Kentucky used in the morning.

"Get yourself a cup." Georgia ordered smiling back at the southerner, of course in his Wildcat shirt and blue dress shirt.

"Mmm would rather hold you." Kentucky whispered. Georgia smiled and sighed just as the front door opened.

"Prep is here!" Betsey announced closing the door behind her with her foot, holding a crate filled to the brim with plates, and cutlery.

"Betsey! Happy Latesgiving!" Georgia greeted as Kentucky broke his hold on him and went to get some coffee.

"Ya know I don't care what Adam says, I love that name." Betsey said with a smile, putting the crate on the table.

"Well he ain't the only one who makes fun." Georgia shrugged.

"Flo had a field day with it yesterday." Kentucky muttered while taking a sip of coffee.

"I got everything from our celebration." Betsey announced as Kentucky moved past her. "I even got the centerpiece Danny bought! Isn't it cute?" Betsey asked taking out a paper mache turkey from the top of the pile.
