**Y/S/N = your son's name
Y/S/N had just recently started the 7th grade. A few weeks into classes, he had mentioned to you and Vinnie that he couldn't see the board or his worksheets sometimes and it bothered him.
He said how he didn't wanna ask the teacher what was on the board in front of everyone. So he would either not write down notes or wait until everyone left at the end of class so he could walk straight up to the board.
Vinnie made an appointment to the eye doctor immediately after he was informed because he wanted to know what was wrong with his child as soon as possible.
That weekend, the three of you went there.
The professionals ran some tests and they came to the conclusion that your son was nearsighted. Meaning he could not see things far away. Now he had been given some glasses with the correct strength for him. He willingly took and then y'all head out.
You were almost home and Vinnie was driving. You look in the backseat at Y/S/N and he has a slight frown on his face while holding the glasses case in his hands.
"What's wrong?" You asked him. "You barely said a word the whole time."
He looked up at you and grinned. "Nothing."
You had looked at Vinnie and he had a look on his face liked he wanted to say something but didn't.
The following Monday morning as Y/S/N was getting ready for school, Vinnie saw him staring at himself in the bathroom mirror with the glasses on.
"You alright bro?" He asked and stood by the doorway.
"I don't want to wear them." You son said bluntly. "Everyone is gonna make fun of me." He pushed past Vinnie to go to his room. Vinnie sighed as this was the age when they start having an attitude.
He followed him into his room and sat down the bed.
"Hey, listen," Vinnie said calmly. "I don't think anyone will make fun of you."
"I also don't like the fact that something is wrong with me." Y/S/N replied.
Vinnie sighed. He couldn't say that it wasn't true. Being farsighted wasn't normal. "Well, when you put it like that, it makes it seem worse than it is. No ones body is perfect. And why do you care so much about what other people think.
Y/S/N gave him a look. "Dad, I'm 13. It's what we do."
Oh yeah, Vinnie remembers that.
"Well you shouldn't. Because what other people think don't matter. The only thing that matters is that you will be able to see clearly, right?"
He shrugged.
"What kind of parents would your mom and I be if we didn't get them for you? Everything we do is because we love you. And besides, someone might actually find them dope. Lots of people where glasses, this isn't anything new. And here, look at this," Vinnie said and pulled out his phone.
He scrolled through pictures for a few seconds while Y/S/N watched curiously.
"Here's a picture of Uncle Reggie from back in the day."
Y/S/N laughed out loud and that put a smile on Vinnie's face."You ain't got nothing to worry about bro." He said and put his arm around his son's shoulder. "You just go in there and be confident."
