Plot: You say something that upsets him

(Note: this is set in Huntington Beach while y'all are on a stay-cation with friends)

He's looking at you and his jaw is set tightly. He looks pissed. You shift uncomfortably under his gaze as the fire crackles in front of you. You try to focus your attention towards the Airbnb.

You hear Doja Cat playing inside and you can see Jack trying to bounce his ass to the music. You let out a small laugh, you wish you could be in there with them.

Vinnie is still quiet. You make eye contact with him and he's still looking at you. Your eyes immediately drop to your lap.

He then clears his throat. "So that's it. You just think I'm shallow?"

"No I never said that." You argue back.

Vinnie raises an eyebrow. "Then why did you say that?" His voice carried blatant irritation.

You take a deep breath because you never fought with him. And you weren't sure if his frustration was personal to you or to just what you said.

You and Vinnie always make self-deprecating jokes sometimes but always in humor. So you weren't so sure why he was sounding like this when you made the joke about yourself.

"I don't know. But I do know that I didn't mean to upset you. That's my fault." Your posture was curved and you crossed your arms over yourself.

"Then what did you mean?" He presses.

"I don't think you're shallow." You repeated. "I just..." you hesitant and scoff to yourself. "I just think you have a type."

The look on Vinnie's face gets even more annoyed. "What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"

"I didn't...I don't know! I'm sorry. I don't know what I'm saying wrong but I don't want to keep offending you."

Vinnie suddenly gets up, put the blanket under his arm, and gets a bottle of water and throws it on the fire, putting it out immediately. Now it's silent. The only noise is the wind softly blowing and the sound of the sand under his shoes as he starts to walk away. He looks like he's about to say something else but decides not to and walk to the house.

You sighed and got up to follow him. He doesn't hold the door open for you like he normally would. You take a breath before stepping inside the house after him.

"What in the world is wrong with him?" Liza asked, gesturing to Vinnie who stomped up the stairs.

"I guess I offended him."

"Did you tell him that you don't like playing Valorant?" Jett shakes his head and laughs.

Liza ignored him and turned back to you. "What did you say?"

"I just said that I think he has a type. Like he would date a certain type of girl and it ain't me. I really didn't mean to make him feel bad."

You look at them, wanting them to believe that you didn't have bad intentions. They don't say anything. They only offer you a shrug.

The next morning, Vinnie is still salty about it. He wasn't like he was yesterday but still went out of his way to avoid being next to you.

DJ sits beside you, excitedly showing you pictures and videos that he took last night. Vinnie would normally be next to you but now he was sitting next to Eamon and Liza. You try to catch his eye but you could tell he was purposefully trying to not look at you.
