79. Giving it up: pt. 2

Vinnie parked his car on the opposite side of the street in front of your house. He got there first thing in the morning because he needed to see you. He knows he should have probably asked you if he could come over, but he was here now.

He sat in his car for a while, thinking about what he wanted to say and how he wanted to say it. But he was an over-thinker.

Also, having a coffee this morning wasn't the best idea because now he couldn't stop fidgeting.

He finally got out and started walking towards your door. The thoughts that went through his mind were:

I shouldn't be coming here unannounced

What if she doesn't want to see me?

What if she's sleeping and I wake her up by ringing the doorbell?

She'll be so pissed

Vinnie stopped in his tracks when he saw a box sitting next to the mailbox that read, "FREE, PLEASE TAKE"

Curious as to what was inside, he took out his car keys and cut open the tape that sealed it closed.

He felt in breath catch in his throat when he saw the items inside. The things that he had given you over the course of your relationship. Picking through the stuff, the memories of each one came back as he saw them. Even a hoodie he gave you after he wore it in a tik tok video and you jokingly commented on the post that you wanted it.

Tears threatened to fall from his eyes as you wanting to let a total stranger have this stuff represented that you were letting him go for real.

Vinnie took the box in his hands and walked up to your door.

You had made a mistake. Of course you didn't want to give all that away. You were just mad, and acted on emotion.

Rushing out of bed that morning, you hoped that no one had taken the box between last night and now.

You swing open the door, only to find Vinnie standing there. You both stood there for a second, not knowing what to say.

Your eyes darted back and forth between the box and him. He opened it. He knew what was inside. You could only imagine how he must feel. Part of you felt like you were caught doing something wrong.

"Um, I was about to ring the doorbell." He told you.

You opened the door wider so that he could come in, then closed it behind him.

Vinnie put the box on the floor and asked, "What are you doing?", gesturing to it.

"Me? I should be asking you that." You replied, alluding to the fact that he was even here.

"I came to apologize." He ran a hand through his hair. "I fucked up. I was selfish and I'm sorry."

You crossed your arms over your chest. "You literally broke up with me because you thought I'd cheat on you or do some shit like that. You assumed I was going to hurt you because you've been hurt in the past. What did I ever do or say to even suggest that?"

"Nothing! I should've came to talk to you about how I was feeling. You didn't do anything."

"Vin-"

"Listen, I guess I needed time to think. I felt like I figured myself out and I just wanted to talk and rave to you about everything, but you weren't there. You weren't beside me when I'd reach out for you in my sleep. I just want you to be with me. Please tell me I'm not saying all of this for nothing."

He softly grabbed your hand and when you didn't resist, he pulled you a little closer.

"Vinnie, I do miss you, a lot. And for the record, I didn't want to give your stuff away. I was mad and did it on impulse. But I was rushing down here this morning to take it back when I ran into you."

He smirked. "The hoodie looks the best on you anyway."

You nodded and then you were both silent for a moment.

"So does this mean..."

"Let's just talk about it." You said. "Take it slow for a little bit and see if you still want me."

"I'm always gonna want you."

Vinnie took your waist in his hands and you brought your hands up to his hair and touched the hair on the back of his neck.

"I'm growing it out. I know you liked it a lot when it was long."

Right then you knew everything was going to be okay.
