Plot: you want Vinnie to share what's on his mind
(Requested)

Sometimes, life ain't fair.

A phrase that parents told their kids when they were young so that they would learn early. It was something friends may have told each other. Yeah, there's some truth to it, but why was it so fucking relatable when it applied?

Vinnie took a deep breath and tried to focus on his game on the screen in front of him.

You were (probably) with someone else. Or several someones. They could flirt with you and make you blush, but even worse, if you allowed it.

There was nothing Vinnie could say. Nothing that would be overstepping a boundary between two people were as close as could be without being in a romantic relationship.

It was stupid. He shouldn't be thinking about it. Especially when he didn't wanna go out tonight with you anyway.

The way he was hesitant about his feelings and sometimes doubtful annoyed him at times. No wait, what annoyed him even more was the fact that you didn't seem to care.

Vinnie never said what went through his mind and his heart when you walked into a room but he knew that you weren't oblivious to it.

What you wanted was clear but you didn't want to make a move until he did.

"Does this outfit look good?"

"Does my hair look okay?"

"Do you like the makeup I did?"

Yes, yes, and yes.

Vinnie wouldn't be going out with you tonight because....when does he ever? But he enjoyed watching you get excited to go.

You were aware of the effect you had on him while saying those things. Vinnie rested his chin on the palm of his hand while he smiled at you. He wanted to grab you and hold on tight. Maybe you'd let him press a kiss to your lips just to prove to you how crazy he was about the lip gloss you had on. Or he'd let his hands wander to the hem of your dress and pull it down, if you were in public, but pull it up if you were alone. But he couldn't.

You had once told him generally that he couldn't keep his feelings about anything bottled up because it'll do more harm than good. He knew that, but it's easier said than done.

He was now sitting at his desk, almost three am and he finally getting off his game.

"Vinnie?"

He was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn't even hear you come in until you plopped down on his bed, taking your shoes off. He looked over but quickly looked away when he saw your dress hitched up too high. Vinnie swallowed visibly.

"Did you have fun?"

He turned in his chair to see you laying down on the bed, cuddling Hera in your arms.

You yawned and nodded.

"Well I'm happy at least."

"You should've came. It's fun when you're around."

"Yeah," Vinnie said and took the bandana keeping his back off his head. "So you can make me jealous."

You shrugged and smirked. "Maybe."

He sighed and fiddled with his fingers. "You want something to drink?"

"Did you know that there was a guy trying to get me to go home with him?" You asked, ignoring his question.

Vinnie kept his eyes on his hands. "No." His voice remained steady.

You eyed him and waited for some sort of reaction. Maybe not anger because that's not who he was. Vinnie was too tense to move or speak and you rolled your eyes.

"How long are we gonna keep doing this?"

"I don't know what the fuck you want from me. You know how I feel."

"Um, I actually don't. I mean sure you always make jokes around your friends but you never say anything."

"You want me to tell you that I hate the idea of you with someone else? How I hate this 'rubbing it in my face' shit. I shouldn't have to spell it out for you."

You got up, rested Hera to the side and sat next to Vinnie on the edge of the bed.

"Vinnie...I can't be with you if I don't know if you're serious. You love joking around so sometimes I'm not sure. But don't be frustrated and shut me out."

"I'm not shutting you out."

"You still seem like you have an attitude."

Vinnie licked his lips. "Well I don't know what you want from me."

"You never do."

"Fine," he said. "I like you. Okay? Or do we need to act like we're in middle school and I write you a note and you check off yes or no?"

"I check yes because I do like you too."
