Plot: New Year's Eve

You were sitting on the couch along with Vinnie, Reggie, Maria, and Nate. It was New Year's Eve and you were watching tv and chatting and but you were also fighting to keep your eyes open.

It's like with every minute that passed, you got more tired but you wanted to at least say you were awake when midnight hit.

You've opened and closed so many apps, trying to keep yourself busy when you got a few texts from Vinnie.

He sat across the way next to Maria, closest to the television.

You really didn't even look at them, just wondering why he didn't walk over and tell you whatever it is he wanted to say. You glanced up and he was looking straight at you. Biting his fingernail. Almost like he was nervous.

You opened his message at it said:

Ight so
Can you meet me in the backyard for midnight?
That's my question
I need an answer, stat

You glanced at him again and gave him a smile. He smiled back in response but tried to hide it.

You got up and walked out the living room to go to the room you and Vinnie were sharing the get your coat.

Opening the slide door to the backyard, you stepped in some inches of snow before sitting down on the chair by the fire that was still burning from earlier.

Vinnie obviously wasn't going to get up right after you. He knows they would assume. And they'd be right, but still. He loved his parents but this was between you and him. Plus, Reggie would clown him for it.

It was now three minutes to midnight and Nate was trying to tell Vinnie something but he insisted that he needed to go to the bathroom really badly. That he couldn't wait.

As soon as he was out of their line of sight, he rushed towards the backyard. Even startling Poncho as he was trying to sleep.

He finally made it, seeing you bundled up with the light from the fire illuminating your face. There was also the sound of people setting off fireworks early.

He sat down next to you, with no room in between.

"Hey." He said and you could see his breath from how cold it was. He also pulled out his phone for the time.

11:59 pm.

A minute to spare. If that.

You both sat in silence, simply looking at each other with glancing at the phone every few seconds to see if the time changed.

When it finally did, he leaned it and you met him halfway. His lips fit with yours perfectly. The kiss was sweet and comforting. He placed his hands on your cheeks to bring you closer. All of it warmed your body up despite it being below freezing.

"I love you." Vinnie said softly. His heart hammered hard in his chest and you fought the urge to smile widely like a dork.

"Love you too. So freaking much." You whispered.

He grabbed your hand and led you back into the house. You two accidentally brought snow into the house and Vinnie tried to get rid of it quickly.

You laughed at his attempt to remove any evidence of being outside.

"I'm gonna go to the bathroom." Vinnie told you once he was done. "I'll meet you back in a minute."

You nodded and went to take off the coat.

He headed in there and took some deep breaths before putting warm water on his face. His heartbeat still hadn't slowed down given his attempts to calm himself down. He stared at his reflection and smiled, realizing how utterly in love he was.
