Plot: you put Vinnie on a pedestal and he hates it

note: basically meaning that if you were Vinnie's girlfriend and were a massive fan, maybe it would be hard to admit his faults because he's everything you've ever wanted

——————————————————————————-

Vinnie should have seen it coming from a mile away.

It was on the things you did for him, and the things you didn't do.

One time, you apologized after an argument in which he had clearly been in the wrong.

You didn't complain when Vinnie had to leave your day trip because he had promised to go to dinner with his other friends.

You had made up excuses for him when he had missed the lunch with your family.

He also had a bad habit of not returning your texts, especially when it was important.

Vinnie wasn't aware of his actions until the night of your birthday.

You had a dinner reservation set up. He was obviously invited along with your other friends.

A few hours before the time he was supposed to be there, he was working on his car with Jett and then he was going to get ready to go.

But somehow, he just was not paying attention to the time. He worked on the car for a while and then went inside because he told himself he was going to take a quick nap.

He woke up and it was 12:04 am. The next day.

Panic rushed through his body as he jumped out of bed and made sure he saw the time correctly.

He checked his messages and the last one was from you, four hours ago.

Vinnie: working on the car and then about to get ready

you: all good! I'm almost there because I wanted to be early

"Fuck." Vinnie breathes and he grabs his wallet and leaves the house.

The whole way to your house, he prayed that this wouldn't be a bad fight. He knew you'd be angry and he thought of every way that he could possibly make it up to you.

He driving the fastest legal speed that he could and even pulled over once to buy you a bouquet of flowers.

The house was dark when he pulled up to the driveway which made him feel worse. Because if you were asleep, he wouldn't know what to do.

His heart raced as he knocked on the door. It opened a few seconds later and you came face to face with him in your pjs but you didn't look like you'd been asleep.

You didn't say anything and Vinnie would have thrown himself off a bridge to know what you were thinking. He started to fidget and all his nervousness made you realize the small bouquet of flowers at his side.

"Those are beautiful." You broke the silence.

This caught Vinnie by surprise. You didn't sound angry.

"Yeah I thought so too. I bought them to say I'm sorry."

You sighed and he hangs his head in shame, preparing for you to explode.

"Aren't you going to come in?"

He snaps his head back up and you've walked back into the house. He hurries to shut the door behind him and followed you to your room.

"Aren't you angry at me?"

This catches your attention. "I was angry at you," you start and Vinnie tenses up at the doorway. "But then I realized that you must've had a pretty good reason for why you didn't show up."

"I was at home. And I'm so sorry, I know I fucked up. I know-"

"I was angry." You repeated. "I'm not anymore though. I understand."

"What do you mean?" He asks.

"You're working hard. I understand-"

"I was sleeping. I was working on the car and then fell asleep."

"Well..." you thought. "You have been working hard and you deserve a few hours of uninterrupted-"

"No." Vinnie shook his head. "No, don't do that."

"Do what?"

"Don't act like everything is okay! I've been acting so selfish recently and you know I have. You can say it, I already know. But don't pretend that I haven't been doing anything wrong. Don't treat me like a king."

"I don't treat you like a king." You defend. "I just try to be forgiving and understanding-"

"That's such bullshit." He interrupted.

"Well you are the one that abandoned me on my birthday."

Vinnie sat down on the edge of the bed. "Yeah...I did."

You sat down next to him. "Because you fell asleep."

He laughed involuntarily. Not because it was funny, but because it was so ridiculous. "Am I crazy?"

"No. I feel like I've been trying to hard to be this perfect girlfriend for you. One that doesn't get mad, doesn't want you to be upset."

"Why?" He frowned.

You replied, "Because I was afraid that I lose you. I felt that behaving in a way that you couldn't possibly complain about would prevent you from breaking up with me."

Vinnie's hand comes up to your face so you can look at him in the eye. "That's insane, you know? You don't have to worry about that."

"I don't?"

"Of course not. Because me leaving you isn't going to happen."

You smile. "You say that like you're sure."

"It's because I am. Nothing could convince me otherwise."
