Plot: Vinnie is rude to you in front of his friends
———————————————————————————You were hanging out with Vinnie and the boys today. They were all taking their cars racing on a track.
Even though you were the only girl, you didn't feel the slightest bit uncomfortable. You loved hanging out with them.
Long story short, y'all were at the track for a couple hours. The boys raced around and you sat in Vinnie's passenger seat of his Rx7 just enjoying the adrenaline running through your veins.
But when you guys were going about to leave, Vinnie noticed something wrong with his car.
"Oh shit, I think my oil pressure is low."
"What do you mean?" You asked, concerned for him.
"My oil pressure is low...I don't know how else to say it." Vinnie replied, getting frustrated.
His frustration was justified. It always seemed like something was wrong with his car despite him constantly making sure that the maintenance was up to date.
Vinnie sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"Hey Jett!" You wanted him over. Jett knew literally everything and you knew he could help.
He jogged over. "What's wrong?"
"Oil pressure is low." Vinnie said. "Come look."
He brought Jett to the inside of the car and showed him the oil gauge.
Damen, Saul, and Eamon came over to see what was the holdup and why no one was on the way home yet. They huddled around Vinnie to talk.
Compared to them, you knew absolutely nothing about cars, especially how to possibly fix a problem. But you cared and wanted to offer some help.
As Vinnie was explaining some stuff, you said, "why don't you just open the hood to see what's wrong?"
He looked over at you with a confused expression.
"Oh no, that's-" Jett started to say but was cut off by Vinnie.
"-where the engine is. I have a problem with the oil. Probably a leak. That's in the lower part of the car."
You looked under the car but didn't see a puddle of oil as if it was leaking.
"Um, what do you mean? There's no leak."
"Oh my god..." Vinnie huffed. "It doesn't have to be leaking out the car. It's just from a bad filter. The oil is probably in the pan but I gotta get the transmission removed to get access to that."
"Oh okay, I didn't-"
"Yeah you didn't know. I get that you're trying to help, but you don't have to. Especially when you don't even know what you're talking about."
He had such a bad attitude and that felt like a punch in the gut. The other boys stayed silent, as they didn't know what to say. They were surprised by his attitude just as much as you were. He'd never spoken to you like that. And plus, you didn't know that much about cars like they did, the least he could do was appreciate that you wanted to help, regardless of getting the information wrong.
Vinnie turned to Jett. "Come on, let's go get this fixed."
Jett shot you an apologetic look before getting in the car with Vinnie.
Guess that meant you were riding with the others.
Eamon drove you home and Vinnie and Jett went to Jett's garage so he could take a look at it.
The ride to the garage was silent for the most part but once they got there, Jett spoke up.
"What the hell man?"
"What?"
"You didn't have to say that to Y/N. Especially with everyone around. She was just trying to help and feel included and you spoke to her as if she was stupid."
"No I didn't. She didn't know and that's a fact."
"Not everyone knows basic things about cars. But I wouldn't have called her out like that in front of everyone. I get that you're annoyed but that's embarrassing. And when it's your own boyfriend? Sheesh."
Vinnie paused and reflected on what happened. He hated to admit it, but yeah, he was out of line. But he didn't mean to be. And he didn't mean to make you feel bad.
When he got home, you were in your room mindlessly scrolling on your laptop. He peered into your room. You saw him from the corner of your eye but didn't look at him.
He came over and sat next to you but you didn't acknowledge him.
"Listen, I'm sorry."
"No I get it now." You said. "I won't talk unless I know the facts."
"It's okay to not know. I'm sorry." He said.
"If it were reversed, I would've simply explained it to you."
"I was just annoyed."
"That's not an excuse."
"I know that. I should've have spoken to you like that."
You sighed. You weren't that mad at him though. Everyone has said things that didn't quite mean when they were mad and he wasn't any different.
"It's okay."
Vinnie put his arm around you and kissed your cheek.
"Come on. I'll show you the parts so you get a general understanding. You should know it just because."
