This story is the continuation of Behind closed doors so if you haven't read that one I suggest to start there. This novel is more storydriven than BCD and also involves more focus on the other characters in the Overwatch family.
The story picks up...
Angela was sitting down, leaning against a wall. Her eyes were closed. She was trying to comprehend what had happened and what she should do next. She felt defeated... defeated and completely drained.
Gabriel had turned around and looked at her. When he heard her mentioning the baby he had stopped and looked at her and then at her stomach through his mask. His eyes had been glowing red and she had heard his deep, raspy breaths. He looked, but he did not say anything... then he had turned around and kept walking.
Despite Angela's pleas, he did not stop again and eventually she had lost her grip of his coat. She had no other choice but to return home. She had tried to run after him, but she was so exhausted already that Gabriel had outwalked her in no time and suddenly he went up in smoke and vanished.
She sighed. She couldn't even cry anymore. All she had wanted was to help him.
She knew that she had to do something. She knew that Ana and Torbjörn would not be happy to hear that Gabriel had been at her place, nor would anyone else she could possibly call. She wanted to call Jack but she did not know how to get in contact with him. Nor Reinhardt. They all tried to stay off the grid for security reasons, given their history, but she did have a connection to Reinhardt's house and to Torbjörn.

She looked down at her armor. Being dragged behind Gabriel had damaged it. She was dirty and her hair was a mess. She shook her head before pushing herself up. She had pretty much collapsed when she reached her home, but she knew that she could not sit around, she had to warn Jack and the others.
With heavy steps she went inside and grabbed her phone.
"Hello? Torbjörn," she called out when she heard her friend's voice on the other side.
"It is Angela," Torbjörn said as an aside.
Angela could hear footsteps approaching.
"I will put you on speaker phone," Torbjörn continued.
"Hello love, how are you?" Ana called out.
Angela completely broke down crying when she heard Ana's voice.
"What is the matter, Angela? Talk to me, sweetie," Ana said comforting.
Angela had to take a moment to get herself in order before she reluctantly told them what had happened.
"Angela," Ana said in a serious tone once Angela had gotten through the story. "I am not upset with you, I am concerned, but I do understand. We will have to contact Reinhardt and warn them. We will call you back."
As soon as the call ended, Angela slid down along the wall while sobbing.
