This story is the continuation of Behind closed doors so if you haven't read that one I suggest to start there. This novel is more storydriven than BCD and also involves more focus on the other characters in the Overwatch family.
The story picks up...
Gabriel and she were standing at the end of the master bed, watching Jack sleep.
Gabriel turned to Angela.
"I am sorry."
Angela gently rubbed his arm.
"It is not your fault, Gabriel."
"I hurt him," Gabriel said distraught. "I cannot hurt him."
Angela sighed as she looked at Jack.
"He hurts himself. Everything he does, he does to himself."
Her voice sounded sad but almost judgmental.
"All I can do is to try to keep him alive... for as long as possible."
Angela turned around and walked out of the bedroom.
Gabriel stayed behind, watching Jack for a few moments, before walking after Angela.
He found her standing by a window, looking out over the farm, rubbing her arm.
"I will never understand you two," Angela said in a low voice as she heard Gabriel approaching.
She turned around and looked him in the eye. Her eyes were glossy but determined.
"But I will be damned if I will not try!" she said, causing Gabriel to look frightened. "Gabriel, go to my office. You and I will have a talk."
Gabriel nodded and did as he was told. Angela soon joined him and sat down in her office chair, crossing her legs with a notebook in hand.
Gabriel took off his coat. His long hair was tied up in a bun, using a hair tie that Angela had given him.

"I am going to be very straightforward with you," Angela said. "It is time to talk. No more playing nice with you or him."
Gabriel sat quiet.
"This cannot continue," Angela continued. "The damage done to him... with or without his consent. It is madness! I cannot understand why he allows it, nor why you do it. You must have felt that he was bleeding... you must have heard it!"
Gabriel lowered his head, looking down at the floor.
"Talk to me!"
Gabriel reluctantly looked up at her from underneath his eyebrows.
"I... I won," he said in a low voice.
"I do not give a damn!" Angela yelled at him and stood up. "I do not give a flying fuck about who of you 'win' your twisted game of dominance! You are going to kill each other! One of you is going to end up dead."
