Jesse woke up, not being able to breathe. He opened his eyes and frantically cleared his face. Realizing what had obstructed his breathing he smiled and rubbed his eyes.

He found Hanzo sound asleep in front of him. It had been rare the last few weeks for the two of them to sleep in the same bed. With Jesse being sick, he was moving around in his sleep, sweating and in general being restless, so Hanzo had been sleeping in a different room. Jesse had not liked it, but he understood that Hanzo needed all the sleep he could get to recover.

It had been rough, Jesse not feeling well, not being able to be by Hanzo's side as much as he wanted. What Hanzo had gone through, losing his legs like that, he wanted to support him every step of the way. The wounds had now healed, but due to the circumstances being out in the rain and mud, he had gotten an infection and Jesse had actually feared that he would lose him when it was at its worst. With the competent friends that were on site though, they had managed to get the infection under control and Hanzo had recovered.

Jesse yawned and let out a sigh of satisfaction as he once more cuddled up to his love. He was feeling better today, the fever seemed to be gone and for now he got to enjoy the thing he loved the most in the entire world... Hanzo.

He nuzzled his face in Hanzo's silky black hair, inhaling the scent. He felt so blessed. Yes, he had had a rough life, a lot of pain and heartbreak, but at this moment he felt that he would do it all over again if he would end up where he was right now. Surrounded by people he loved in a safe place with the most amazing man that, even in his wildest dreams, he could not have imagined would love him back... an unsophisticated, rugged mess off a cowboy. But a charming one... no one could resist Jesse's charm... and he wasn't too shabby looking either when he cleaned up.

Jesse smirked as he fueled his own ego, gently stroking Hanzo's bare arm as he did so.

He heard some soft noises of Hanzo waking up.

The Shimada turned around with a groan and was greeted with a wide smile from Jesse. Hanzo blinked a few times and returned the smile.

"'morning," he said in a growling, tired voice, followed by a yawn. "Are you already awake?"

He wrapped his arms around Jesse, leaning his head against the cowboy's chest and closing his eyes again with a sigh. Jesse's heart melted as he embraced his lover.

It was hard to grasp that this man, who was as hard as stone with a wall around him thick enough to withstand an army, now cuddled, completely relaxed, in Jesse's arms. Jesse couldn't help but feel proud and honored.

He had to suppress a chuckle as he thought back about their journey together. They had not even known each other for a year and still they had been through things that other couples would spend a life time even getting close to experiencing. Good and bad.
