Mood: Coming home - Nerdout
As Hanzo's breaths became more and more shallow, Jesse broke down. With tears streaming down his face he took off his serape and wrapped it around Hanzo's body.
He felt nauseous when he looked down at the stumps that were now Hanzo's legs. Jesse tried to use his shirt to wipe the dirt off the wounds, but with the rain and mud it made little difference.
"Please stay with me... please," Jesse whimpered. "I will get you help... I will..."
He lifted his barely alive boyfriend in his arms and stood up. His feet sank down into the mud as he looked around himself.
"Help!" he cried out in a crackling voice. "Anyone?! Genji?! Gabriel?!"
He turned from side to side but he could not see anyone. To his surprise, he could not see Gabriel either. For now though, his only worry was Hanzo.
"Please...," he trembled. "Anyone... Good God... please... anyone!"
He held Hanzo as tight as he could, shielding him from the elements as, with heavy steps, he started walking. He did not know where he was going, he only knew he had to get help.
Hanzo's arms hanged motionless and his head was leaning against Jesse's arm. The Shimada's eyes were closed, but he twitched every now and then, the only thing giving Jesse some hope.
Jesse tried to keep Hanzo's legs high, he did not know what else to do.
"This is all my fault," he sobbed. "All my fault... I should have helped you... I should have listened to you... Hanzo... I am so sorry!"
He left footprints in the mud as he slowly struggled forward, but they soon disappeared again.
"I cannot live without you... I cannot lose you!" Jesse whispered as he tried to remove some strands of hair and the dirt from Hanzo's face with his cheek.
Every inch of Jesse's body was hurting. He was drained and tired, both physically and emotionally. Despite his best efforts, the progress was slow and eventually his body gave up and he sank down to his knees, still holding Hanzo.
How could this have happened? How could Genji do that to his brother? Jesse and Hanzo were so close to getting out of here and then everything went so terribly wrong.
Jesse was tired... so tired. He wrapped his entire body around Hanzo and closed his eyes.
Then he heard it.
He recognized the sound, but he was too tired to look up. The engines... then a swooshing sound, a loud thump and suddenly the rain stopped.
Everything was a haze.
"Jesse? Jesse, talk to me, my friend!"
He felt a big hand on his back.
"OVER HERE! QUICK!"
Jesse heard footsteps hurrying towards them and the engine going silent.
"Jesse, it's Winston," Winston said in a calm and deep voice. "I want to take a look at you and your friend here..."
He gently grasped Jesse's arm and pulled on it. Jesse groaned and wrapped himself even tighter around Hanzo. The cowboy did not look up. He was shivering, desperately holding onto Hanzo.
"I am only here to help," Winston softly said and removed Jesse's hat to be able to take a look at him. "I see that you are hurt."
"How are we looking?"
It was Angela's voice.
She was out of breath, being pregnant and having had to struggle through the mud. Winston's dome kept the rain away, allowing the Overwatch dropship to make a safe landing and the duo to be able to work somewhat protected.
