Mood: Oceans - Seafret
"Please, please don't leave!"
"I have a train to catch."
Quite some time went by before Jack finally processed what exactly he had just done. He was struggling whether to apologize to Angela or to stay put. His decision ended up on respecting Ana's wishes although he still wanted to be sure that Angela was okay.
He could clearly hear Ana, Reinhardt and the others arguing upstairs, but chose to stay out of it... even though he likely knew the cause. Deep down he still felt that he should not be here, but without his vision, there was not much he could do about it. He couldn't manage on his own until he could see again.
When the door to the basement was opened, he quickly sat up.
"Hello?" he said.
"Hey...," Angela's soft voice called out to him as her heels made their way down the stairs.
"Angela!" Jack said and sat up straight. "How are you? I am so sorry... did I hurt you badly?"
She approached his bed and sat down on the edge. She took his hand in one of hers.
"No," she said. "A few small cuts, but I will be fine."
She ran her other hand over his bandaged chest and then placed it on his swollen cheek. Jack flinched slightly as his sore skin was touched.
"How about you?" she asked and removed her hand. "I am sorry that he hit you... that was uncalled for... I have talked to him about it."
"He was just looking out for you," Jack said. "I would have been just as upset if I was him."
He felt Angela grab onto his hand tighter and lifting it up.
"You have a bruise on your hand," she said. "Try tensing and relaxing it a few times, I want to make sure that nothing is broken."
Jack huffed and shook his head.
"Did I hit you that hard?" he asked distraught.
"No...," Angela said a bit confused. "It was more like a hard push. You did not hit anything else? During your brawl with Reinhardt, perhaps?"
Jack started feeling nauseous and he wanted to sink into the floor. He was feeling so bad for hitting Angela to the extent that he had actually bruised his hand.
He pulled it away from her and opened and closed it a few times before putting it under the covers.
"No...," he said, trying to stay calm. "It is fine, don't worry about it."
He could hear Angela sigh.
"How is Genji doing?" Jack asked, trying to change the subject.
Angela went quiet for a few seconds and he could hear her breaths becoming shorter and more uneven.
"Physically he will recover..." she said in a shaky voice. "But he is shutting down mentally again... and he is pushing Jesse away... to the extent that Jesse actually left... I tried to stop him... but I could not convince him..."
Jack sighed. He was there and saw the struggle everyone went through to try and convince Genji to let Torbjörn and Angela build him a new body after the horrific events he had gone through at the hands of his brother. He had been so traumatized that he refused to let anyone touch him and it had really taken a toll on poor Angela.
They had barely managed to hook him up to the device that kept his heart beating and cut all arteries to prevent him from bleeding out, but more than that, he refused for a long time. That meant that he had spent weeks in a room with his own thoughts, being forced to see his torn body day in and day out.
