Part 53 - Responsibility

Mood: Champion - Barns Courtney

"Do not worry, dear," Ana comforted. "He is just a bit all over the place right now. He will come to his senses."

She held Angela closer.

'I will see to that,' Ana thought to herself.

Angela kept sobbing and shivering in Ana's arms.

After a little while, Ana let go and put her hand on Angela's cheek, tilting her head up.

"Now you are going to listen to me," Ana softly said. "This hysterical outburst is not good for the baby. Besides, a child is the biggest joy there is... we should be happy, not crying!"

Angela smiled slightly and softly nodded her head a few times with her eyes closed.

Ana got up and helped Angela to her feet. She then led her out into the living room and sat her down on the couch.

"How far along are you?" Ana asked.

"About 14 weeks," Angela replied.

"14 weeks?!" Ana said surprised. "And Jack did not know about it?"

Angela shook her head.

"No... I..."

She sighed.

"I found out when I went back to Sweden to help out with Genji and I was going to tell him when I returned... but... he had left."

Tears started running down Angela's face again.

"I did not know if he would ever return again... He wrote this letter... I was so scared and I did not know how he would react when he finally did come back... he got upset about Gabriel... I was afraid of him and did not dare to tell him. I know I should have, he has a right to know... but then he left again... and..."

Ana gritted her teeth. She tried not to show how angry she was with Jack and nodded along with Angela.

"Listen, Angela," Ana said. "I understand your decision... I just wish that you would have told me. You should not have to be alone while going through this."

"But now," Angela said with her voice breaking. "I cannot hide it from him anymore so I had no choice and..."

Ana glanced down at Angela's stomach, seeing the small bump that was showing through her loose shirt.

She took a deep breath.

"And of course he saw it when we... and he freaked out!" Angela cried out. "He grabbed my wrist and he yelled... God... he was so mad. I have never seen him like that. Never!"

"But why did he not think that it was his?" Ana asked.

Angela shook her head.

"I don't know!" she exclaimed. "I swear, I have not been with anyone else. I have been here, waiting for him to come back to me! But he would not listen and when I did not confess whose it was, he left..."

Angela looked Ana in the eye.

"He even accused Genji," Angela said distraught.

The doctor's eyes suddenly widened.

"You do not think... that he would...?" she stammered.

"Do not worry about that," Ana said. "He will not get near Genji or anyone else for that matter. I have seen to that... which remind me, I have to make a phone call. Would it be okay if I borrow your phone?"

Angela nodded as Ana stood up and walked out into the kitchen.

Angela curled up in the sofa, still softly sobbing while wrapping her arms around her knees.
