This story is the continuation of Behind closed doors so if you haven't read that one I suggest to start there. This novel is more storydriven than BCD and also involves more focus on the other characters in the Overwatch family.
The story picks up...
Ana motioned for Angela to come closer as she put on the speaker on the phone.
"I know, it sounds strange," Torbjörn's voice called out from the other side. "It seems to be blood that gives the rope its red color... but there are quite a lot of other chemicals mixed in. I have not yet figured out why it would have such an effect on Reyes... but I will keep analyzing it."
Angela's eyes widened as she heard Gabriel's name.
"Do you have enough to send a piece of it down to Switzerland?" Ana asked.
Angela shook her head.
"I think it is of utmost importance that it is analyzed properly and Torbjörn's equipment is far ahead of what I have left," she said. "You should go up there."
She could see the reluctance in Ana's eyes.
"I will be fine," Angela reassured her. "I have my patient's to tend to anyway, some work will be good for me. I am very grateful for you staying with me for these last few days... but I promise, I am fine now."
"I don't know...," Ana said unsure.
"If it can help Gabriel, I think that that should be the top priority for now," Angela said with a nod.
"I could use your help on this one," Torbjörn said. "But you know Angela's state better than I do... I cannot decide for you."
Ana pondered for a few moments.
"What if Jack comes...," she said but the interrupted herself with a chuckle. "Scratch that... I will come up. We need to help Gabriel in any way we can and if Angela says that she is fine... I trust her."
She smiled at the doctor who smiled back.
"But only for a few days," Ana clarified. "Then I will come back for you... and gods help you if you lied to me."
Angela nodded with a chuckle.
"That will be perfect," she said. "But take your time. If there are two people that can solve this, it is you two... but do not hesitate to call me if I can be of any assistance."
"Thank you," Torbjörn said. "And once again, congratulations on the baby! Children are the true joy of life!"
He cleared his throat.
"Although we might have been a bit... overjoyed up here," he muttered, causing Ana and Angela to start laughing.
"Ingrid has it under control," Ana chuckled. "And I will come and help out as well!"
"Always appreciate it," Torbjörn said. "All right then! See you soon!"
"Say 'Hello' to Ingrid and give all the children hugs from me!" Angela called out before they said their good byes and hung up the phone.
"Are you sure it is okay?" Ana asked, still a bit unsure.
"Absolutely sure," Angela said.
Her smile was kind but her eyes still looked a bit tired.
