This story is the continuation of Behind closed doors so if you haven't read that one I suggest to start there. This novel is more storydriven than BCD and also involves more focus on the other characters in the Overwatch family.
The story picks up...
I meant to write sooner... and more often, but to say that life has been busy lately is an understatement. Although I have loved every second of it.
I am truly blessed. The joy in my life is beyond what I can put into words. Rei is now 13 months old. He got the spirit, strong will and feistiness of his father, something that he reminds us of every single day.
I did not think it was possible to love someone like this, but everything about him... he is my angel, my sunshine... my everything.
I named him Rei, because he is a ray of sunshine. Rei Jack Morrison Ziegler.
His giggle and the joy he brings to everyone around him. A blessing. A gift from a higher being. I am so grateful and proud to be able to call myself his mother.
He has blond hair, not a surprise given who his parents are. Golden... again, like sunshine. A strong grip and the will to live like that of a true warrior. It was difficult, I thought I would lose him... but here he is, as strong and healthy as ever! He is even standing up now, although holding on to a table or something else for support, with his chubby little legs wobbling as he fights to find his balance. That smile... when he learns something new... it melts my heart.
His favorite person, apart from me (I do provide his food after all) is his uncle Genji (I decided to pay some homage to the Japanese heritage in this family with the spelling of Rei's name). Rei lights up every time Genji enters the room, reaching his little arms up to be carried. He giggles, plays with the shiny armor and the flashing lights. Genji plays with him, sings to him, rocks him and lets him fall asleep in his arms. My hero and Rei's hero.
Genji has taken on the father role in such a way, that if you did not know, you would not have a single doubt in your mind that he was the actual father. I smile... I do not remember the last time I have smiled as much as I have this past year. My baby is surrounded by so much love. Uncles and aunts that spoil him to death! And I let them... because he deserves it. There will never be a moment where he will feel alone or unloved.
Genji even bought him a little onesie. It has dragons on it. Both blue and green ones, honoring his brother. I have a feeling that Rei will become a little ninja as soon as he can start practicing with them. He will love every minute of it.

Soba has gotten to meet him. It was the cutest thing ever. She pushed herself against the floor, making herself as small as possible to not scare him. She looked at Genji who slowly let her approach Rei. Rei did not fear her one bit and giggled as he got to pat her. Soba sniffed him, gave him a big lick right across the face and then retreated behind Genji. We all laughed.
Hanzo wishes to introduce his dragons at a later point. He needs to find his peace of mind in order to calm them down enough for him to feel safe having them around Rei. They are not used to being... how should I phrase it... domesticated house pets. I laugh again while I am writing this. It feels so silly. Soba on the other hand is causing a mayhem around here. She loves the calm life and playing with all of Rei's toys. Almost like a puppy. Genji has his hands full with her. Rei loves every moment of it.
