This story is the continuation of Behind closed doors so if you haven't read that one I suggest to start there. This novel is more storydriven than BCD and also involves more focus on the other characters in the Overwatch family.

It is difficult to grasp that it has been over a year since the wedding. That beautiful day here at my home in Switzerland, surrounded by everyone we love and care for. A day that I do not believe that anyone of us will ever forget. It was just... perfect.
A few days after that blessed day (when everyone had had the chance to recover), our happy couple headed out on a much needed honeymoon around the world. We received pictures from New Mexico, Indiana, Sweden, Germany, Nepal, England and of course Hanamura. I smile as I think of the last place, because it just so happen that our beloved archer did get both of his Empires in the end.
Jesse wrote me that they had been a bit nervous returning to Hanamura, but to their surprise, Hanzo was welcomed back and reclaimed his place as the rightful heir of the Shimada Empire, now ruling it with four strong women by his side. Let me see if I can remember... Sakura... Yui, Riku and... Minato!
These ladies had apparently taken control of the city and ruled it in Hanzo's absence, but as soon as he had returned, they stepped aside. Difficult to grasp why, but their culture is different to ours. Sakura is Hanzo's second in command I was told, with the others having different key positions.
Jesse is by his husband's side, but he has no ambitions to rule anything. He just seems very happy to be there... and I can imagine that the rest have gotten quite a few laughs out of him adjusting to their customs. Our clumsy cowboy being a part of an Empire... hard to imagine. Although I have also been told that he has brought some good changes to their ways of living, lightening things up a bit. As far as I have been told, the city has slowly accepted their relationship and with that, some much needed progress has been made in people's mindset towards a lot of things.
It is now a place of peace and security, with Hanzo being the leader they have needed for a long time. Jesse is so proud of him and I could not be more proud of the two of them... and especially Hanzo. It is a big step to stand up for who you truly are, despite what you have been taught.

With the four women by his side, Hanzo balances his responsibilities and his duties, allowing Jesse and him to travel and spend time outside Hanamura. New Mexico is of course a favorite for them, where the townspeople renovated a house for them. There things seem to be the same. People go on with their business, Ashe is causing trouble... people drink and gamble, fight and make up... just the way they like it. A little bird told me that Larry and Tiki are seeing quite a lot of each other... our little cupid Jesse doing a good work there... and so are Nancy and Chuck, running the diner together, him having dropped out of the Deadlock gang.
Jesse and Hanzo also make sure to spend plenty of time in Eichenwalde with Ana and Reinhardt. The house they were gifted is located beautifully in the town and as a newly married couple, they receive good advice... along with being pampered by Reinhardt and Ana. Jesse has always had the highest respect for them both. They have had his back and cared for him like a son.
