A few days later Hanzo arrived at his destination.
He was tired and drained but walked with his head high through the streets of Hanamura. Night had fallen and the busy night life was going on all around him.
Eyes followed him from windows, roofs and corners but Hanzo kept his eyes on the target. He could hear the whispers and the gasps from people realizing that he had returned. Other people were less surprised and as he walked he gathered a group of followers.
"Hanzo! Come visit us!" a lady called out for him from a night club but he ignored her and kept walking.
His bow was hanging on his back, he showed no signs of fear or hesitation. He was just as stoic and intimidating as always. The followers kept a safe distance but never let him out of their sight.
The crowds thinned out and eventually he ended up at the outskirts of town. He turned into a back alley and walked into the clan's building.
"Nice to see you back, boss," a man dressed in dark clothes gretted him as he walked in.
Others bowed in respect when he entered, but some just glared at him and held their hands on their weapons.
They took a few steps towards him but when he growled with displeasure at them, they quickly stepped back.
The hierarchy of these kind of groups was as fragile as that of a pack of wild animals. As soon as the alpha was gone or showed any sign of weakness, there were plenty around to take his place. Hanzo was not caving in though, this was his town and he was making them very well aware of that.
He walked to his room and one of his subordinates opened the door for him. No one dared to touch him but the tension was high in the air.
The room was kept in pristine condition, no one could have guessed that he had been gone for weeks. The bed was made, candles were burning and a small serving table with fruits and various drinks on it was placed in the center.
He sighed with a mix of relief and acceptance when he saw the familiar surroundings.
A few females entered the room, giggling as they quickly undressed him. Two of them hurried into the bathroom and quickly drew a hot bath for him. With some reluctance he let them take his bow and hang it on the wall. His clothes were taken away for cleaning.
One girl untied the sash in his hair and his long, dusty, pitch black tresses fell down on his back. He closed his eyes as the girl ran her soft fingers through it.
He sunk his body into the warm water and tried to relax. The girls immediately got to work and started scrubbing his body. One of them placed herself behind him and leaned his head against her chest. She gently massaged his scalp and forehead and Hanzo couldn't help but calm down.
He didn't say a word and all that could be heard was the girls' soft giggles as they ran their hands across his tired muscles.
They poured water over his hair and cleaned it with much care. They were clearly happy that he was back. When he was all done he waved his hand and they disappeared just as fast as they had arrived.
One of the girls placed a drink in his hand and then vanished out the door.
Hanzo took his time. It had been a long time since he had had this feeling. He was home.
He knew that he needed all the rest he could get. The upcoming days would be difficult to get through. He had to reclaim his position as the leader and see how much damage that had been done by his absence.
