This story is the continuation of Behind closed doors so if you haven't read that one I suggest to start there. This novel is more storydriven than BCD and also involves more focus on the other characters in the Overwatch family.
The story picks up...
The sun was barely visible on the horizon as Genji shook Jesse's shoulders to wake him up.
Jesse was still wrapped under the many layer of clothes and reluctantly opened his eyes. When he saw Genji and realized what day it was he flew out of bed.
"Easy," Genji said. "How are you today? Feeling better?"
"Yeah... yes, no problem. I am fine," Jesse stammered while pacing back and forth in the room. "My revolver... we need to go."
He quickly changed back into his own clothes, grabbed his revolver and put on his hat and poncho.
Genji was a bit concerned but decided to leave it be. They needed to head out now and if Jesse said he was ready then he chose to trust him.
"All right," Genji continued. "Just remember what we talked about. This is going to be dangerous, I need you to be on top of your game and I need you to promise me to not act on impulse. You need to do what I tell you. This is not a game."
He locked eyes with Jesse.
"I know that you miss him, but you need to control yourself. As I said, we are not welcome here."
Jesse nodded. He had a hard time hiding his excitement, but the tone of Genji's voice convinced him to stay calm.
"I jus-"
"I know," Genji interrupted him. "I know. Just... just please don't do anything stupid."
Jesse raised an eyebrow.
"Are you nervous, Genji?" he asked confused.
Genji seemed very on edge, which was rare. He was usually very calm and composed but something was clearly bothering him about this situation.
Genji walked over to a table and picked up his swords and put them in place on his suit.
"It will be fine," he said in a tense voice and shook his head.
He took a deep breath and put a hand on Jesse's shoulder.
"Just expect the unexpected on this one," he said and gave Jesse a light smile.
Jesse smiled back.
"I know these men are like the best ninjas out there and I respect that. I have been fighting with you by my side many times, Genji, I know what your people can do and that my clumsy ass wouldn't stand a chance if you turned against me. With you on my side though, I know that there is nothing that can stop us... but I promise to behave."
"All right then, my friend. Let's do this."
Hanzo was woken up by a knock on the door. He looked around and saw that the bed was empty. Lily must had left while he was still asleep.
It was very unlike him not to notice but it had been a long and intense day yesterday.
He knew very well what the knock was for and he got out of bed and got dressed. He walked back to his room and headed into the bathroom.
He took a deep breath and watched himself in the mirror with his head held high. He washed and tied up his hair.
