Mood: Visa vid vindens ängar - Ida Redig
"Do we really have to go?"
"We have been invited, we should attend."
"I know... it just feels... wrong. Weird."
Jack chuckled.
"What about us is not weird?" he asked. "This is one really fucking weird group of people..."
Gabriel sighed as he sat down on the bed, hiding his face in his hands.
"We should let them have this day alone," he said with a groan. "My presence is really not needed..."
Jack smiled a kind smile as he walked up to him, kneeling down in front of him.
He stroked Gabriel's leg.
"I understand where you are coming from," he said, softly. "Neither of us has been on his best behavior for the last year... but you are the father of the groom and you have been asked to be there."
Gabriel groaned again as he looked at Jack.
"That is exactly what is weird... after everything... I mean it's ju-"
"It is how you are being viewed now... and to be honest, I think that is what you should have been all along. Don't you agree?" Jack asked, still giving him a light and kind smile.
Gabriel nodded slowly a few times.
"I should have been, yes... but I failed and I..."
He sighed.
"Unless you have some mixed feelings about him still?" Jack asked as he tilted his head with one eyebrow raised.
Gabriel shook his head slowly.
"No," he said in a low voice. "I don't think it was ever about that... those kind of feelings, I mean..."
He stood up and grunted as he started pacing back and forth, running his hands through his black hair.
"My mind! I just cannot comprehend everything that has happened. What was me, what was the drugs... what was actually real? It is just a mess!"
Jack stood up as well and walked up to him. He put a hand on Gabriel's shoulder.
"When you found out about the drugs, where did you go? Where are you now... and despite everything, who did you come back to?" he asked in a calm voice. "Bloodlust or not... leaving or not... who did you always return to?"
Gabriel looked down at the floor and then up at Jack with a crooked smile.
"You," he replied with a glimmer in his eyes. "Always you..."
"For me, that is proof enough," Jack said, giving Gabriel a quick kiss on the cheek. "Despite me putting a bullet in your head... and everything else... you know..."
Jack did a circle motion with his hand as to wave away their extensive violent history towards one another.
"...when you had the choice after waking up... you chose to stay with me."
Gabriel smiled a sly smile.
"Well," he cheekily said. "I kind of need you, you know..."
He winked at Jack who chuckled.
"I know... but still, you don't have to live with me... the medications we can sort anyway," he said. "You don't have to fall asleep in my arms and wake up next to me."
Gabriel nodded and put a hand on Jack's cheek.
"You are right," he said. "Through it all... your face is always there in my mind... clear as day."
