Flashback
Damanhour, Egypt-
A woman with a swollen stomach, her hand rubbing over it with a smile that seemed to brighten the room. She seemed like a goddess. A pregnancy glow that only magnified her beauty. A man walked up to her with a huge smile.
"حبي جميل كالعادة." The man told her, his accent thick and raspy. Probably from the sleep he just had. (My love, As beautiful as always.)
"الطفلة - ستكون هنا قريباً." The woman had an elegant voice, like she was fitted to be a queen, or at least a Princess. (The baby- she'll be here soon.)
The man smiled as he placed his hands on his wife's belly, feeling the kick of the baby against his hands. A beautiful moment of a happy couple flipped so fast. Pain shot through her body, causing her to double over. Her husband trying to find a way to help her. Blood oozing from between her legs.
"الطفل!" The woman groaned out in fear. The man lifted her up, moving her to their bed before calling for help. (The Baby!)
End of Flashback
"You were born in Egypt?" Steve asked as he opened the bottle of alcohol before pouring some into her bullet wound. Kendra gritted her teeth.
"Born and so what raised. Yes." She told him. "My birth wasn't perfect. My mother went into a coma. Apparently my birth was too much for her and popped an aneurysm they didn't know about." Steve looked at Kendra with a look of sympathy.
"So you- You never knew her?" Kendra shook her head.
"No. I lived with a comatose mother and my depressed father in Egypt for about nine years before she died." Kendra told him as he stringed the needle she had in the kit. "My father moved us to America to get away from the bad aura. Always saying, اترك الماضي خلفك. إنه مجرد الماضي. لا تدعها تقضي على مستقبلك." Kendra spoke with a thick accent. Steve looked at her with extreme interest, hearing her native tongue rolling out the language she grew up on. "Leave the past behind. It's just that, the past. Don't let it bring down your future." She repeated in English. Steve smiled.
"Ironic, since you see the past." Steve told her as he started to stitch her wound up. Glancing up here and there to see her gritting her teeth together. "I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault I got shot." She laughed. Steve chuckled shaking his head at her way of joking.
"So you came to America to leave the past behind, only for Hydra to kidnap you?" Kendra nodded. "Then you met Natasha and Bucky. Bucky got you out of there- but what then? You didn't go straight to Shield. It doesn't add up."
"I had to lay low for a bit. Shield wasn't safe yet." Kendra told him. "I'm sure Nicholas will tell you, I'm not exactly in the system. Had to wipe myself out of everything. Stay hidden from Hydra's watchful eyes."
"Thats why you lived in an abandon building." Steve pointed out, working out the pieces himself. Kendra nodded.
"I may be blind, but I could still tell how shit my place was. Thanks again for fixing it up, by the way. It seemed nice in my visions." She told him with a smile on her face. Steve laughed, carefully rolling her onto her side so he could stitch up the other side.
"So you stayed low before going to Fury? Is that all?" Kendra shrugged.
"I'm still remembering things here and there. I don't know how Hydra did it, but I can't remember my father. My mother- as you know was Loki's mother as well." Kendra told him. Steve sighed.
"That's something I'm still trying to get used to. The fact that you are related to a god. Does that make you a goddess?" Kendra laughed.
"I don't know. Maybe? She was Asgardian. I'm curious if my father knew what she was- he- I remember he always spoke of how elegant she was. When she was in the coma- he would always tell me stories of her. Making sure I knew who my mom was." Kendra smiled at the memory. It was one thing she could remember. Her father's face was blurry- a memory she didn't know if she would ever remember.
"Well- maybe you are a goddess then. You look like one." Steve flirted as he finished up the stitches, easing her back on her back.
"Are you flirting with me, Captain?" Kendra asked in a teasing tone. Steve chuckled before leaning over her.
"What if I am?" He whispered before his lips met hers in a simple kiss. Kendra smiled and leaned up slightly, kissing him back. But Steve pulled back before they could do anything. "Let's get you to bed. You need rest." He told her, moving his arms under her legs and shoulders before lifting her up as he stood up.
"Steve-" Kendra tried as he walked her into her bedroom.
"Not now. We'll talk after you rest." He told her as he laid them both down. Propping her leg up before bringing her close to him. A blanket being pulled over them. "Rest."
"Yes, Captain." She whispered, closing her eyes as she focused on his heartbeat, his breathing. Letting it drift her to sleep.
