Chui returned to the table with the same bag she had carried throughout the hero mission.
Peni looked up as she placed it beside the remains of an Ultron drone.
"You still have your costume?"
"Of course."
Chui unzipped the bag and pulled out her white helmet.
The scratched visor flickered between two pink eyes and a loading symbol.
"It's showtime."
Peni had removed their armour and arranged the machinery into careful rows. Chui had taken the opposite approach. Wires, processors and pieces of metal surrounded her chair like something had exploded beneath it.
A map of New York glowed across the wall.
Jessica Jones sat on the corner of the table with a cup of coffee in one hand. Luke Cage stood beside her, arms folded. Danny Rand had pulled a chair closer to Peni and Chui, determined to understand whatever language the two girls had started speaking.
Peni enlarged the communications network surrounding Manhattan.
"We could bury the SOS inside Ultron's drone telemetry," she suggested. "His units are still transmitting diagnostics outside the city."
"He checks the packet signatures," Chui replied. "The moment the data weight changes, he'll quarantine the drone and trace the injection point."
"What if we split the message across several hundred machines?"
"Distributed carrier fragments?"
"With a rolling encryption key."
Danny Rand nodded slowly. "So we make the message weigh nothing."
Peni looked at him.
"That isn't how data works."
"Right." Danny sat back. "Of course."
Chui moved several satellites above the city.
"We could spoof an emergency handshake, bounce it through a military uplink and force the receiver to accept the burst before Ultron detects the false authentication."
Danny leaned closer again. "Through the moon."
"No," Chui said.
"It could bounce off it."
"Not that kind of bounce."
"Right."
Peni pulled up New York's underground communication lines.
"What if we bypass his wireless network completely?"
"Every fibre exchange is under his control."
"The abandoned emergency grid?"
"Connected to the same exchanges."
Danny pointed towards the tunnels beneath Manhattan.
"We could send someone down there with the message."
Chui stared at him. "Carrying it?"
"In a briefcase."
Nobody spoke.
Danny lowered his hand.
Luke Cage looked between all three of them.
"Does anyone here actually know what they're talking about?"
Danny considered the question.
"I thought I did twice."
"You were wrong both times."
