Aizawa announced the Cultural Festival in the same voice he used for exams.
No excitement. No attempt to make it sound important.
Just another event U.A. expected us to survive.
"The festival will take place as planned," he said. "Security will be increased, visitors will be limited and every department will submit its activity by the end of the week."
The class remained quiet.
Before Mina died, nobody would have been able to stop her from speaking first.
She would have already been standing beside the board, listing ideas faster than Iida could write them down. Half of those ideas would have involved dancing. The other half would have been impossible.
Her desk held a framed photograph and fresh flowers.
Nobody looked at it for long.
I kept my eyes on the window.
"Do we have to do anything?" Sero asked.
"Every class is expected to contribute," Aizawa replied.
Aizawa looked across the room.
The festival was supposed to give the students living at U.A. something normal. The other departments had spent months trapped behind stronger walls because the Hero Course kept attracting danger. Some of them blamed us.
I could not say they were wrong.
Iida stood beside the board.
"Whatever we choose should be for the entire school. We should provide an experience that allows everyone to relax."
Suggestions followed slowly.
A café.
A haunted house.
A play.
Kaminari suggested a maid café and received enough angry looks to remove it himself.
Hagakure raised one glove.
"What about music?"
Jiro lowered her head.
Everyone turned towards her.
"Why are you looking at me?"
"You know music," Kaminari said.
"That doesn't mean I want to perform in front of the school."
"You can sing, right?" Hagakure added.
Jiro's face coloured.
The class gathered around the idea before she could escape it. A live concert would fill the gym. The dance group could perform in front while the rest of the class handled lights, effects and staging.
Dance.
The word silenced them again.
Kirishima looked towards Mina's photograph.
Uraraka spoke first.
"She would have loved it."
Nobody needed to ask who she meant.
"She would've taken over," Kirishima said.
His voice almost broke on the final word.
He cleared his throat and looked down at his desk.
Jiro turned back towards the board.
"Then we'll need people who can actually play."
Hands rose.
