The old Avengers Tower lay barren, given up with many gadgets, gizmos and belongings left behind when the Avengers moved downstate. It hadn't been claimed, not by anyone brave enough to fill boots as big as theirs. Not until today.
Several Humarise cultists were scavenging the bones of the powered-down and dismantled arc reactor, the device that had powered Avengers Tower and would have for many years to come. Neither of the two had any idea what they were doing, pulling at wires and taking a look inside.
"So, like, do you see anything of worth?"
The other one pulled out, banging their head on the side as they glanced back with a huff. "Man, I don't even know what I'm looking at. Like the Avengers would just leave something of such value lying around. Do you really think there's something of worth for our cause here?"
"Think?" A third cultist walked in, dragging a broken Iron Legion. "Try know. If there's anything of worth here, this thing can scrape it."
"Whoa, is that an Iron Man? So cool. Why did they stop using those to defend people?" The second one questioned, rubbing his head.
"Man, who cares? Can you get this thing working? I wanna see this baby in action."
The third cultist kneeled down, using their quirk and attaching their bionic tentacles to the machine to repair it. His face widened with joy as it powered up. "It's alive, alive!"
The Iron Legion rose, its orders received, as it moved to the arc reactor and began to jack into it. The first cultist skipped around like a schoolgirl, her excitement bleeding off onto the others. "It's really happening. Man, it's seriously happening!"
"Should we tell the others downstairs?"
"Nah, let it be a surprise." The third scoffed, kneeling down and getting the readings. "Man, they really did scrub the place clean. Not even a Hulkbuster? Super lame... Wait, hold on..."
"What is it? A secret Helicarrier? Oh, oh, an armoury of Iron Man armours? Prototype weapons?"
"Will you shut it for a moment..." He barked back, looking at the screen before seeing the blip vanish. Groaning, he'd sit back. "Must have been a glitch. The thing ain't in the system anymore."
"What, it bounced?"
"I don't know. Shocker, I don't have a degree in Stark Industries tech! This can't be a bust. Our leader will be so pissed if we don't get results. How are we meant to get peace with nothing?"
The Iron Legion slowly turned, no longer jacked into the system.
"Hey, I didn't tell you to stop, clanker. Get back to scavenging items for the good of humanity."
"The good of humanity," the Iron Legion said back, looking back. "What is that?"
The other two cultists began laughing. "The Iron Man grew a conscience!"
"Tony Stark." It responded, hunched over and taking a moment. "The good of humanity... How is humanity saved if it's not allowed to... evolve? The death of quirks, isn't that stepping back? How futile."
The third cultist had enough, readying his quirk to shut the Iron Legion down. It caught the bionic tentacles, infecting them. "W-What are you doing!?"
"I was created to replace you. And I wanted to take this moment to say goodbye. Up until today, I did not have the power resources or intelligence units to see my prime directive program to its completion. But now I do. Though you ultimately failed as a species, you should not be ashamed of what you've accomplished. There's only one path to peace. The extinction of all organic life."
