Alchemax had needed six days to make Oscorp look outdated.
Norman stood at the head of the boardroom while a map of Japan covered the wall behind him.
Blue symbols marked every agency and emergency service that had signed an agreement with Alchemax. Genius Office had been the first. Three regional rescue teams followed before the end of the week.
Kamui Woods had agreed to field-test their capture equipment.
Ryukyu's agency had accepted two aerial-response suits.
Local authorities had begun replacing Oscorp communication systems with Alchemax networks.
The blue symbols continued to spread.
An Oscorp director closed the report in front of him.
"Alchemax is undercutting every contract we offer."
"They are losing money on each agreement," Norman replied.
"They can afford to."
Another director turned towards the map.
"Their response suits performed successfully in public. Our division arrived after the villains had already been captured."
Norman kept his hands flat against the table.
He had heard the same words from reporters, investors and government officials.
Late.
Unprepared.
Old news.
"Oscorp has supported this country for decades," he said. "One staged victory does not erase that."
"The public does not believe it was staged."
"The public believes whatever appears on the nearest screen."
The boardroom doors opened.
Norman's assistant entered first.
"Mr Osborn, I tried to explain that you were in a private meeting."
Alistair Smythe followed her inside.
His white suit carried the same blue as the Alchemax symbol behind Norman. He looked across the directors as though he had been expected.
"No need to stop on my account."
Norman's jaw tightened.
"This meeting is for Oscorp leadership."
Alistair pulled out the empty chair at the far end of the table.
"Then my timing is better than I thought."
The directors exchanged uncertain looks.
Norman dismissed them before any could speak.
"We will continue this later."
Chairs moved away from the table. Nobody argued. Within a minute, Norman and Alistair were alone.
Norman waited until the doors closed.
"You have thirty seconds to explain why security allowed you into my building."
"Your board invited me."
"They do not have that authority."
"They own enough shares to disagree."
Alistair placed a thin folder on the table.
Norman did not touch it.
"Another offer?"
"A better one."
