Ch 21. Nightmare Of The Past

Kurt has just woken up, deep in the night. Feeling worried, he heads to Charles' room. While walking towards it, he met up with Hank, who happens to pass by. Beast gives the teen a reassuring arm around his shoulder. They arrive at Charles' bedroom.

"It's going to be alright. Charles will help you." Hank reassures, but Kurt still looks upset.

A few seconds later, Charles opens the door, wearing his pajama's. "Hank? Kurt? Is everything alright?"

"Kurt would like to talk to you." Hank announces.

Charles knows this has to be important. "Come in." Kurt walks while Hank leave them be. Kurt takes a seat on a chair, next to a table while Charles is sitting near him. "Would you like something to drink?"

Kurt shakes his head, which is looking down. "No zank you."

Charles hums. "Whenever you're ready, I'm here to listing."

Kurt hums. "I don't know when it happened, but I zometimes have zeze nightmares. Ze zame one over and over again." Charles looks intrigued at Kurt. "In the night, I zee a woman holding two babies running away in fear. Eventually zhe lost one baby, and zen the other one."

"Do you recognize the woman?" Charles asks.

"No." Kurt responds. "Zhe iz covered by a cloak, az did her children."

Charles hums. "Are there any details you didn't mention yet?"

Kurt begins thinking about the dream. "Raining and thunder can be heard. Zhe lost the first baby by dropping it when running away, however doezn't stop running. The second baby zhe lost by accidently dropping the baby and herself in the river when zhe waz crossing a wooden bridge."

"And from who were they running from?"

"I have no idea..." Kurt face is puzzled. "It's alwayz the same dream. It openz with the running away and it ends by lozing her last baby."

"If you don't mind, I can go into your mind. Perhaps that way, you can make peace with this dream." Charles suggests.

"I think that would be for the best." Kurt replies.

Charles moves over to Kurt and put his hands against the sides of Kurt's head. Digging deep into the mind, Kurt relives the dream. However now, Kurt sees his point of view from one of the babies. He's in the arms of the same woman in his dream. However, he barely sees the woman's face, only seeing her blue skin and hearing her panting. Suddenly, the woman falls on the ground, however he is still in the woman arm. He hears multiple baby's crying and sees another baby, covered in a blanket crying a few feet away. The woman contemplates picking up her baby when she hears multiple men yelling in the distance.

With much regret, she stands up and continue running. Continuing running through the dark woods in the rain and thunder, they arrive at a cliff with a rotten, wooden bridge. She quickly walks over to the bridge, however one of the wood pieces brakes. The woman grabs the robe, trying to get up again, however it also brakes. The woman yelps and tries to hold on with one hand on the robe. However soon, the woman can't hold on any longer and drops in the water.

"Ztop it!" Kurt yells.

Charles stops reading the mind of Kurt, now seeing the German with tears in his eyes and breath rapidly. His arms crosses, trying to reassure himself. Charles knows this is confirmation. Kurt is one of the children. "Kurt-" Kurt teleports away, leaving Charles concerned for the teenager.

It's morning, Y/N and Rogue are outside with Ororo. The later is taken care of her flower beds by giving them water while Y/N and Rogue are standing near her. A few feet away from them, Kurt is in a tree. Although he can see them, they can't see him. But he doesn't really care because he just wants to be alone and sit somewhere peaceful.
